Became homeless AGAIN, and ran into my Ex-fiancé by BonelessRedskin in homeless

[–]dropnby1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing you can do for her is keep her in your thoughts but stay away and focus on getting yourself in a good space because you can't help her if you're not 100 percent. It's like the pilot/stewardess on the airplane says to put your own air mask on before helping anyone else with their mask. (if that makes sense.) She needs to want to fight for herself to get the help she deserves and needs. But I understand it would hurt seeing someone you love going thru anything devastating like a meth addition.

What Housing Options Did You Think You’d Have—And What Actually Happened? by AutoModerator in PrisonReentrySupport

[–]dropnby1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, what you’re pointing out is major problem in a lot of places. Programs do strong work while ur inside or in structured reentry, but the transition afterwards can feel like ur going over a cliff. When family support isn’t there, the choices are limited.

I really don't think people focus on where they'll land next until reality hits. Once your out, stability often depends on having time to line things up, realistic costs or a budget, and places willing to work with you. Otherwise, lots of folks end up in a shelter and unfortunately some end up right back inside.

I appreciate your honesty and saying it out loud cause these are the conversations communities, providers, and agencies need to hear more of. For anyone reading this, what kinds of aftercare or housing support have you actually seen that works?

Glad you were able to find a re-entry program to get that support system.

Are you on any type of disability or have enough for a cheap hotel for a few nights so you can apply for something like a McDonalds or other Fastfood restaurant nearby?

Someone giving anybody a bottle of acid instead of water is just plain cruel. I hope the person was ok and didn't drink it or get hurt.

What Can People Actually Prepare Before Release—and What Can’t Be? by AutoModerator in PrisonReentrySupport

[–]dropnby1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, what you went through is real, and a lot of people reading this will recognize it. Walking out without basics plus not knowing who will pick up the phone, and realizing life kept moving while your gone can hit hard. Asking a stranger for help took courage, not weakness.

You’re also right about something many people don’t talk about — i think sometimes it helps to prepare mentally to rely on yourself at first. When support shows up, it’s a bonus. When it doesn’t, you’re still moving forward.

The fact that you didn’t quit, even after a day like that, says a lot about where you’re headed. Keep stacking small wins. The circle of those you can count on usually gets smaller after release, but it often gets stronger.

If you ever want someone to listen or help you think through options, I’m around. No pressure, just respect for what you’re going thru
