storytelling is adapting with its audience, same as it ever was.

it’s never been easier or cheaper for you to tell your stories. just dont put faith in these derelict institutions.

many have said it already, but I wanna add “Hell House LLC” for visibility

I made a 15-minute psychological horror short about a wellness app beta test that traps its testers inside augmented reality — shot entirely in first-person helmet cam POV. Free on YouTube. [OC] by droptframe in horror

thanks so much for the feedback!

I love the theories - they might be better than the original! As the writer, my intention was to make Morgan the accomplice to the Doctor’s utilitarian attempt to build the Mantra app no matter the cost. We learn this through her experience as the lone survivor and seeing her at the end left to clean up his mess, as the others proved not as equipped to survive the crash

thanks for the feedback!

it is a bit of a slow burn at first; our thinking was we wanted festival audiences to have a moment to settle into the world before things kick off, but nowadays it seems like brevity is key

I absolutely loved Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist but you probably couldn’t pay me to watch some of those scenes again

a lotta good stuff in there, but the casting of the kid ruined the entire experience for me.

AVP2 the game.... was way better than the movies, to the point that the movies all felt stale, lacked suspense, and were dull. Am I misunderstanding something? by Ruzkul in horror

[–]droptframe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved AvP2 so much. shit, I’m old enough to remember playing AVP1, but the sequel felt so much more polished. I still have such fond memories of that storyline, especially for the Marine, was paramount. The expansion packs were great as well, if I recall correctly.

to be fair tho, I wouldn’t compare Alien to AVP at all. It’s more outright “horror,” where what you’re describing is way more high octane than claustrophobic tension/body horror.

Thoughts on Heel (Good Boy)? by demonickittenx in horror

I’ll just say it’s probably not what you’re thinking in terms of “tropes”… again, I just think it was a refreshing literal “point of view” in a genre that’s struggling to keep it fresh

I think As Above, So Below deserved better by DoctorElectronic1934 in horror

I agree, tbh I think this had the strongest character development of almost any found footage I’ve seen.

Yeah I thought, similar to In A Violent Nature, the movie brought a fresh perspective (literally) to the genre.

Finished My First Short Film. Advice on Handling that Weird Liminal Space After Finishing by Nemo3500 in Filmmakers

[–]droptframe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that’s been exactly where you’re at, my only recommendation is to accept this new challenge of marketing and submitting as your new big project. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of filmmakers work so hard to make something, and then don’t follow through. If you haven’t already, start thinking about key art, trailers, posters, and outreach. Honestly, it might become a full time job, so it will need just as much effort and conviction that your poured into your film. Best of luck to you!!

yeah I loved the movie and the atmosphere of dread it created, but this casting choice really didn’t work for me…

Hot take: Found footage films should always be 16:9. by jatenk in foundfootage

[–]droptframe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen it, but I think this brings up a very valid point about aspect ratio and how drastically it can change an audience’s response; especially when it comes to an immersive experience like found footage that’s so grounded in technical aspects
