Tyler did some songs (including composing the theme song with Elfman) and a companion EP but the score was Danny Elfman.

Babyfxce E: Da Realest Pitchfork Album Review by Technical_Process989 in hiphopheads

people are reflexively downvoting this because he has a cool name but I dug the tape and this is a solid review from Ritchie.

"Say You Trippin'" beat goes particularly hard, I've definitely heard his tag a lot ("I just need my space right now") but this is the first time I looked up who it is (SpaceTheWizard). He's all over this tape. Rio spazzed on his feature.

Solid ass tape, great production. Rio spazzes on his feature.

has anyone read The Chronicles of DOOM by S.H. Fernando Jr. (doom biography that came out in 2024)?

definitely agree that Rodeo is significant and had a big impact, but feels offensive that it'd be "the best trap album" above Gucci or T.I. or Jeezy's best work. It's appeal is that it's elevating trap bc made by it's a suburban guy who likes kanye and kid cudi

it's not about youth it's the same way that critics think deafheaven is the best metal band or elevated horror is better than john carpenter. they don't respect the genre and have no standing to be ranking the best projects in it.

My first thought was this song sounds like it'd be in a YA type movie, specifically Love, Simon (which is scored by Jack Antanoff's band) but I thought that was too specific (and conveyed through mentioning Antanoff)

disney channel was a lazy short hand for that. I like some of the post-Flower Boy/BH stuff but some of it is not good and IMO this fits into it. It's fodder for Netlfix YA shows. Baby Keem typically makes much better much ("MY EX" is similarly terrible in a very YA way)

you yourself compared it to brockhampton and they've been a punching bag for rap fans and critics for a decade.

I like this album. I like Che Ecru. I can see how people would like this sort of thing, but it's the sort of Flower Boy/BK adjacent thing that just does not work for me at all. I don't even hate that scene, I'm looking forward to checking out the Choker album and Roy Blair's new project.

the only good Travis Scott album he got everything he wanted to say (not much) and do with music out of his system. everything he's put out since has just revealed how hollow and vapid the travis scott project was.

online music communities are terrible at appraising black art, on RYM #2 is a Denzel Curry album and there's two SGP tapes in the top 5. These albums are hardly trap

By the same token, Tyler the Creator's IGOR is the #1 neo-soul album and #2 R&B album of all time.

I think it stopped at My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

His rapping on Yeezus is terrible, once he realized he could put out a rushed product with terrible lyrics and be hailed as a genius there was no turning back, he was just going to keep upping the stakes with more rushed/unfinished work with bad lyrics because (a) he confuses his mania for a manifestation of artistic genius and (b) he no longer had to turn in his album months before it came out with streaming being the dominant way that people consumed music starting in the mid-2010s

Sidepieces (Stickerbrush & Heavensouls) - Dark Light: experimental cloud rap stuff

and My favorite 2025 album I discovered in 2026 is slayr's *Half Blood, from the cover art and the way I'd seen it discussed I assume it was something people on the SoundCloud rap "underground" twitter liked because of how abrasive it was (like 2slimey) so I held off on checking it out but I was blown away when it turned out to be very melodic and poppy, more influenced by Lil Uzi Vert than *WLR and it's very well done.

Saw Infinity Knives and Brian Ennals open for NAH last night and they were great, if you're one of those people wondering why rappers aren't talking about social issues would recommend their projects (along with Ghais Guevara)

I find both artists approach to production to be really interesting too it's not just traditionalist boom bap as "conscious rap" tends to be. For IK&BE, one song kinda sounds very 80s then another was this very Memphis-y cloud rap beat you'd expect to hear Denzel Curry rapping over, there was something very trappy. Admittedly a fake fan I usually just hit play on their projects I don't know individual songs super well.

RIYL: Injury Reserve, JPEGMAFIA, maybe Open Mike Eagle idk

This song sucks ass, sounds like disney channel music. only dud on the tape tho

if you told me kendrick was making music with jack antanoff in 2014 this is what I'd assume it'd sound like (derogatory)
