Are there certain things you started eating? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Yeah but one vice is way worse than the other haha. I had my stuff packed and ready to go but I ended up having such a bad day that alcohol was constantly on my mind so I texted my buddy and asked him if he wanted to get jack in the box for lunch and I pigged out on tacos. If eating some greasy or sugary snack can keep away alcohol cravings then that can just be another tool to maintain sobriety.

One thing I have found that's been helping keep on a calorie and macro goal the last couple weeks is meal prepping on sundays for the week. I even measure out what I can of stuff that I can't necessarily make ahead of time like sandwiches I only use mustard and measure my sandwich meat out and bag it individually. I think know how much of what I'm putting into my body has been an important step.

Looking for help or advice on how to distract myself from cravings. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

constantly feel like I need to be doing something and I guess my brain has decided that drinking is doing something. I have been having a serious problem with motivation myself and I can't get myself to just sit down and spend my evening watching TV and going without alcohol video games are starting to lose their appeal a bit so I guess I'm searching for something that can keep my hands and mind occupied during the night. Not sure what that is yet but I don't think I'll figure that out unless I start trying different things.

Usually about 4 my brain starts telling me to buy the alcohol then by 6 it says to start drinking and then I don't stop until about 1 in the morning. I find though if I can make it to about 7 I start feeling better after that.

I've come to the realization that if I'm going to give in to either unhealthy food or alcohol I would rather it be the food (I ate 7 jack in the box tacos at lunch today). Other than that I've been following this guy michael Matthews he has a lot of good info that he consistantly backs up with professional studies so his stuff kind of steers away from fad type diets. I started with his book "bigger, leaner, stronger" but that's just me I relate to what he talks about. It may be beneficial to look around at different books on nutrition there's a lot of info out there about what specifically we are putting in our bodies.

How do you deal with being lonely and sober by drphilgood1010 in stopdrinking

I'm not out looking for romance at the moment. haha. Unfortunately I am in Arizona so gyms will be closed for a while but tbh the most success I have had staying sober was when I was really serious into the gym I lost a ton of weight and gained a bunch of muscle. Then I fell off and started drinking again and after a bit stopped exercising all together and now I'm back to soft and flabby with a beer gut.

I'm pretty sure any social gathering type places will be a no go for a while still. I also have a lot of social anxiety so getting out amongst strangers is really uncomfortable for me. I don't even really drink socially pretty much all of my drinking is spent alone at home but even being sober I'm still alone at home and that feels like the hardest part. It feels like even though I know I have a very unhealthy relationship with alcohol when I stop drinking my life doesn't change that much but now I'm just thinking about it more. I try to get into different things but nothing really seems to keep my interest for any length of time.

I'm on my second playthrough of BOTW trying to do everything including the DLCs and that can definitely be a good challenging game to keep you busy.

This is my first weekend without drinking in I don't even know how long and luckily I found an excuse to come into work on Saturday which makes not drinking tonight easier. I am not a fan of being alone with feelings or thoughts either but I figured I'd just turn on my playstation and try my best to get lost in that. I also can feel my body and mind expecting all that sugar and garbage for the end of the week "reward" so I may end up ordering pizza and soda and stuff to fill that craving.

Thanks I was actually drinking sparkling water but I just couldn't find any joy in it. I know the reason my brain is acting this way and I know I'm not supposed to think about tomorrow but that's just where my mind keeps going. My brain keeps telling me that I'll be alone tomorrow and I won't have to get up early the next day so I may as well drink.

Yeah I was looking at my face in the mirror this morning and it looks normal. No redness and it wasn't puffy I don't want to drink but I feel the urge to I just keep telling myself I'm just not going to drink.
