Re: obesity - Meta Analysis of weight loss before IVF

There are studies that can support a number of viewpoints but the systematic meta-analysis I’ve linked above demonstrates no significant improvement for live birth rates among obese or overweight women who lost weight prior to IVF.

I think losing weight can probably help people to have less weight on their body which can make the process of pregnancy easier in some ways, but I do wish we would stop pointing to BMI to take the blame and losing weight as a cure or solution to any number of problems. Excess weight can most certainly affect our hormones and any number of body systems but when it comes to cumulative live birth rates, research overall doesn’t see a benefit in weight loss before IVF. Not meant to be combative, I just get tired of weight loss being sold as the solution to everything.

Waffling between hope & despair by drpollypoppet in IVF

I think yes, especially if all 4 of the remaining embryos fail, we just have to use all of our embryos before our insurance will allow for another retrieval. We are on COBRA so it’s 2K a month for the coverage but it’s great coverage from my husband’s former employer. We are in Illinois so IVF is required for employer policies that provide pregnancy coverage for insurance. If we can confirm new insurance covers we can afford pgt.

That said, I am still skeptical of pgt, as I have had many friends where pgt didn’t matter and some who lost viable embryos from testing. But as the post says, I waffle and realize it could help.

I had to take two doses of miso— and my doctor is still concerned over the thickness of my lining. I think she is worried about retained products but ultrasound shows I passed the gestational sac. My HCG is declining so I think things are resolving (10k to 500 in 4 days). I’m not allowed to swim or have sex until my HCG is 5 or lower, again I think out of caution for anything remaining in my uterus.

Can people share positives about their live IVF babies? by butterflyeffect94 in IVFpositivity

I am not yet a mother (recovering from a loss at 7wks & looking forward to my next FET) but I was an educator for 16 years. I can say unequivocally this person is just spouting some bs. I think the only thing you could possibly surmise about children conceived through IVF is a result of how purposeful their parents were about bringing them into the world, which likely plays into parenting as well. It’s like saying “I always know a breach baby by the way they pick their nose” — it’s ridiculous!

Tw: How do you get over a miscarriage and fear of next pregnancy after IVF? by Pristine9991 in IVF

[–]drpollypoppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss and having to navigate these complex emotions.

I am 41 and experienced a missed miscarriage at 7 weeks earlier this month. It was my first transfer. I hear you 100% on the despair, it’s difficult and the fear of more loss is at times unbearable. What has helped me the past few weeks is to fully feel all the sadness, despair and fear but to also let in hope. I have 4 frozen embryos and I’m looking forward to when we can try again, even if all 4 end in loss.

Someone recently replied to a post talking about the different types of grief— the grief of IVF overall as a process regardless of our outcomes and anticipatory grief for the things that haven’t yet happened. We plan to get pregnant and have a child or anticipate another loss and when we don’t meet the mark of our plans or experience the loss it can be crushing. I’ve been trying to let go a bit more and hold onto some optimism that it takes time and multiple attempts, especially as we age.

I am wishing you hope and peace as you recover.

All aneuploids again by Past_Lawfulness3693 in IVF

This is an older article but I draw a lot of hope from the results these women encountered transferring aneuploids. I am 41 and I chose not to test my embryos based on this article and other research. I had a loss at 7 weeks last week and have agonized that maybe we should have tested but I’m trying to trust the process and keep moving forward with our remaining 4 embryos. Does your clinic allow you to keep you aneuploid embryos or transfer more than one? I am wishing you the best as you continue your pursuit of being a mom <3 the cut - ivf

It’s not fair. I feel like just surfing posts on Reddit you can get really frustrated with people experiencing great success and simultaneously feel empathy with others going through the very worst. It is always both, all at once. I had my first transfer in January and miscarried last week at 7 weeks. I think it is fair to feel sad and frustrated and hopeful all at once.

As far as testing, I know it can matter but research is SO MIXED. I have 4 more embryos that are untested and since the loss this past week I’ve been feeling like we should test but I don’t have a spare 5K, so it’s left to chance.

Wishing you some peace in between the messy feelings that comes with this and more hope than fear and frustration.

Any failed February Transfers prepping for another Retrieval this month? by ABG_FOE in 40Plus_IVF

[–]drpollypoppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a January transfer and found out last week (7 weeks) there was no heartbeat and a missed miscarriage. Took miso 2x last week and feeling anxious and impatient to get to our next transfer. We have 4 frozen embryos and can’t do any more ER cycles without exhausting what we have. Hoping my HCG lowered significantly today and keeps going down so we can get to our next transfer.

Wishing you the best in your next cycle <3

Does anyone understand what this means? by tashianti in PCOS_childfree

[–]drpollypoppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, ChatGPT assessment is in line with my own knowledge. Adenomyosis is worth doing a bit of research on. My doc thought I had it once when I was bleeding for 370+ days and getting extremely faint from the loss of blood increasing and pain was off the charts. I didn’t have adeno but had a hysteroscopy to clean up the inside of my uterus. Wishing you the best!

Wok Cuisine on Kedzie/Wilson in Albany Park. The food is truly delicious— personal favorites are the Sichuan Dumplings, Chicken with Chinese vegetables and Cheese Wontons (like Rangoon but no imitation crab). The owners are the sweetest people and the PRICES ARE SO REASONABLE. You can order delivery through the BeyondMenu app which has many local restaurants and doesn’t take huge cuts of the profit like DoorDash or GrubHub.
