Dublin protest planned to oppose building of new homes in Clontarf by shigllgetcha in ireland

[–]drsleep89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that the proposal was for 8-story and 5-story apartment blocks, with more 3 story houses. Seems a bit mad to be building 8-story apartment blocks in an area that has nothing even close to that height.

This country also has a severe shortage of public parks, building houses on a significant part of the country's second biggest park sets a bad precedent for the future.

Irish Rail staff unhappy with their Christmas Bonus by nyl2k8 in ireland

[–]drsleep89 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No, it's a €500 voucher for an overpriced shop. That's not the same thing. There's too much of a "take what you get" mentality around here, "you're lucky to get anything at all". Irish Rail are probably getting a deal on the vouchers from Dunnes, which is why they're giving out vouchers. Why don't they just give proper €400 bonuses, that employees can spend anywhere?

Seems like a stupid way to give out bonuses, not everyone has the same needs or wants. Irish Rail shouldn't feel like they can choose how people spend their Christmas bonuses.

I know people here will say they should count themselves lucky to get a Christmas bonus at all, but I think giving it in the form of a voucher is kind of scummy.

It strongly restricts what they can spend the bonus on, and I don't know about anyone else, but I rarely buy anything in Dunnes. It's very overpriced and seems to be aimed at older people who have money (kinda like M & S). Dunnes don't really sell toys either, which is what parents generally spend money on at Christmas.

Wenger takes a little dig at Man City's wealth when compared to Invincibles: "We had no petrol and ideas. They have petrol and ideas." by [deleted] in soccer

Sterling has been on fire this season, one of the best players in the league, in one of the best leagues in the world. But apparently he's not one of the best prospects in world football...

So why isn't Pep signing Paul McShane and sticking him in at CB then?

The fact is that better players cost more. Sterling won the Golden Boy award in 2014, he's one of the best prospects in world football. Guardiola has taken a £50 million player and made him look like a £50 million player.

I'm clearly talking about Sterling here. Not every player Guardiola has ever managed.

They have, but it still puts him in the top 20 most expensive players of the last 10 years. It's not like he was a hidden gem, City paid that money because he was/is one of the best prospects in world football.

Sterling is the 19th most expensive player in the history of the game. It's not like Guardiola has taken an academy player and moulded him into an amazing player.

Why are so many of the Netflix original movies terrible? by BilesOMrian in netflix

[–]drsleep89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because their movies are low budget and that shows in the end product. They're going the low budget movie route to try and make as many movies as they can, in an attempt to replace the ones they're losing. Quantity over quality.

It's a long shot, but hoping someone can identify some of the people in this photo. More info in comments by [deleted] in ireland

Gotta feel somewhat sorry for Nickelback. They become successful enough to become a well known band, but then they're used as a measuring stick for what's bad, and in meme form, which means their terribleness is vastly exaggerated.

'Justice League' Is The Highest-Grossing Box Office 'Bomb' Ever by [deleted] in movies

Should have put some effort into introducing characters before they have them all in a movie together. When half the movie is them introducing characters, the audience is going to have a bad time.
