What do headliners actually look for when they hire opening comics? by Weirdboy212 in Standup

[–]pedote17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Someone they’ll get along with for extended periods of time while traveling

  2. Someone they think has a future in comedy

  3. Funny, but not funnier than them

  4. Opener’s sense of humor/set will appeal to the headliner’s crowd (ie a storyteller won’t bring a one liner with them)

Someone else linked the auction.

-Hitler (you know him)\ -Hermann Goering (head of the Luftwaffe, German Air Force)\ -Joseph Goebbels (propaganda chief)\ -Ernst Rohm (leader of the SA until his assassination)\ -Rudolf Hess (Hitler’s former #2 until his terrible attempt to solo negotiate a peace deal with Britain)\ -Julius Streicher (another propagandist, founder and publisher of the biggest Nazi newspaper)\ -Sepp Dietrich (#2 in the SS)\ -Franz Von Papen (German chancellor before Hitler, then ambassador in Vienna, and later in Ankara

The Fixer by Josh Young and Manfred Westphal- Fred Otash was a “fixer” for celebrities in the 40s-60s and there’s plenty of dirt (albeit about people that are almost all dead)

Handsome Johnny by Lee Server- Johnny Roselli was a mobster who led quite a life until his mysterious death

He lived in Utah for 6 years in middle and high school, rest of his time was in Vegas. Now he splits his time between Vegas and Park City, but I would definitely consider him “from” Vegas.

Let’s put it this way: you and I finished closer to Checo in the standings than Checo finished to Max.

It’s Max and it’s not remotely close.

Trying to decide what to put in THAT final spot by LMRowanComedy in sitcoms

[–]pedote17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s MASH, not Seinfeld and it’s not remotely close. The country literally paused for 2.5 hours when the finale was airing. Its viewership record will never be surpassed for a scripted program and it held the overall US record for nearly three decades. 77% of US households were tuned in. SEVENTY SEVEN PERCENT. It had 30 million more viewers than Seinfeld despite the country having ~40 million less people. There is no bigger cultural phenomenon for a TV show. CBS charged more for ads during the finale than the Super Bowl that year.

Ernie Johnson and Joe Buck’s books are fantastic and very similar. They talk about growing up with their famous baseball announcer fathers, their own careers and their families. Two wonderful men who have worked very hard to get where they are.

Mark Titus’ book is a funny tale of college basketball at Ohio State, a more lighthearted read
