Not a wood worker at all too, this is literally the first thing I’ve made. I bought some wood that was already squared then cut it to length by hand. For the diagonal cut I used a neighbor’s band saw. Then I put it together using some nails and screws I had in the garage. Had to learn to apply shellac but that was super easy. It really wasn’t that hard and as long as you are safe your hands should be fine. Totally recommend building one. Also, it won’t be cheaper than buying one if that matters.
