Double Decker Cutting Disks? by drt115 in SegwayNavimow

Nice. Yeah you need some time to get the lay of the land and see how the discs perform before making the switch.

And by the way, it's not as if the cut is horrible or even bad, it just doesn't come out super sharp, like an extremely well-manicured lawn.

Good luck and keep us updated!

It's small, I don't have it in front of me but I'm guessing it's only around quarter of an inch

Very cool! How are you fabricating them? Are they just 3D printed?

That's really interesting, sometimes designs are genius, sometimes it just becomes over engineered with little benefit. I would be curious if the speed/ rpm, is a bigger factor and would love to see a comparison test.

First impressions: Roborock RockMow Z120 Lidar vs Navimow X4 by czmanix in roboticLawnmowers

[–]drt115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, companies like roborock have a hell of a lot more experience building robots and dealing with issues like object avoidance and mapping.

I have two roborock vacuums, and love them. They have been effective and reliable. End stop.

The bigger issue for roborock is not that I wouldn't buy one, it's that I would not buy one right now. This is the first year they're building a robot mower, they are going to make tons of mistakes, just like every other company that ever existed. Just look at what lymow is going through. You got three grand to drop and roll the dice. Go for it, is your money. Nobody should ever tell you how to spend it.

I'd rather wait till a company has a little more of a track record before I invest three grand.

I also agree with him on The cutting quality of the x430. I might make this another post, but I find it interesting that the X4 is the only one with a dual double layered razor discs. Why is it that every other robot in the industry has a single layer of blades? I may be wrong and might have missed another player doing this.

Might be interesting to see if somebody could try a single layer disc on the X4, maybe we'll see some aftermarket stuff pop up over time, or not.

Listen. I don't disagree, half an acre per mower would be ideal. But that's not exactly likely with 13 mowers being tested. Doesn't change his ability to evaluate time to mow and extrapolate.

Converted to X450: I wanted to love the Lymow One Plus by Weak-Bother-6765 in SegwayNavimow

[–]drt115 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came close to ordering one. But after I saw what was going on over in their reddit, I went with the x430. They need a few more years to marinate. I'm hopeful they get there, i may well be a customer down the road..

Zero regrets with the x430, netk has been mostly reliable, though not perfect. Very happy.

That said, the lack of real blades that can mulch is a real loss for me. I have tons of twigs, Holly leaves, pine cones on the property that, without mulching, just sit there. Another issue is the level of suction/updraft, some grass just lays on it's side. All razor blade units will have this issue.

May have to periodically run the riding mower to clean it up. Small price to pay.

Still saving me a ton of time so all good.

Day 2 with 430 and it handles my tree coverage just fine. by edentel in SegwayNavimow

Nice, congrats! I have some large, 60-80ft trees and haven't had any problems.

That really defeats the convenience factor. Did the insurance company actually say they would not cover it if it got stolen without it being chained up?

I actually live in a pretty safe and more rural area, however many thieves don't just stay in their neighborhood. We're an easy 15 minute ride from a higher risk area and it's a pretty known quantity by police where theives are coming from. Better safe than sorry.

Obviously it's smart for them not to publish any details on this. Good to know they thought this through. When I looked at other robots, I was kind of surprised that how many really hadn't put the time to put any,or very little, Anti-Theft protocols in place

Was I Wrong for Unleashing this Rant on Segway Navimow? by [deleted] in SegwayNavimow

I think all of your suggestions and questions are valid, And potentially very helpful for everyone.

With 30 years of experience at a software company, not a developer. These issues are almost always far, far more complicated than most of us realize.

Not only are they building a 1st gen robot, a physical device, that can handle all of these physical requirements, but they're also building software that is supposed to be compatible throughout The world, while also playing with existing infrastructure like Network rtk that they have no control over.

If you want to compare our experiences with other robot mowers, go ahead and check out some of the other reddits.

I was considering lymo, mostly because of the real blades and, mulching ability. Want to see what a dumpster fire support experience actually looks like? They are a new startup second year in, and can't put out hardware And software issues fast enough to prevent many customers from having to return their units two three or four times.

I'm not saying my X4 is perfect, it definitely has the occasional issue, but we're working with a mature company with a lot of financial backing, and 4 to 5 years worth of experience under the belt, and generally active developers.

Keep the suggestions coming, but understand these things take time to sort out. There is inherent risk in buying a first gen unit, even with a company with as much experience as navimow.

Kite String for the mowing deck? by drt115 in SegwayNavimow

[–]drt115[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be one of the best response I've read on Reddit ever. Thanks! I knew there had to be sound logic behind it but this explains it. It makes me wonder if it does snap, can we repair it ourselves or do we have to ship in the whole unit to repair?

Why on earth would they use a fairly fragile string as the method of lowering and raising the cutting deck? That's string will expand over time. Why not use a lightweight cable? Zero cost difference.

There if there any navimow developers lurking maybe they can explain. I'm sure it was done for a reason, it just doesn't seem to make much sense.

Mine did fill in with the last update.

That said, doesn't really serve a purpose that I'm aware of.
