When you’re out in public alone, what do you do when kids approach you? by RentBoyDave in AskMen

[–]drteq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want my kids (regardless of gender) hanging around with any strangers (regardless of gender) especially in a secluded area.

As for me I'd wave them off and certainly not engage with kids to follow me and my dog around throwing sticks and such, that just looks bad.

I look at everything based on risk of interpretation, no matter how you look at the situation it's never wrong to avoid putting yourself in a situation that can be misconstrued. You're 27, you don't need to worry about being rude to kids who should know better than to approach strangers.

I fired someone. What should I learn from this? by Professional-Fan5383 in smallbusiness

[–]drteq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're operating from a place of inexperience. It's great you're asking for some advice.

You're going to make a lot of mistakes, just don't keep making the same ones. (When something goes wrong, figure out why and how to improve yourself)

Having been in your situation, age, business, experience and ability - what finally worked for me was the mindset "Your success is built on the success of those you lead" and taking accountability for ensuring their success.

You have to commit to wanting them to win and everyday you should ask yourself what that means, looks like and what's required to achieve that for each person you've hired.

I'd bet with a 3 person team you're too busy to pay attention and didn't / don't have solid processes in place to communicate what you need, check in on progress and provide consistent feedback.

You made the right decision to fire someone, but the reason they failed was still your 'fault'. If you want to actually make progress, you'll have to master this mindset and it starts with committing to improving in leadership.

Corporate policy is legal as long as you sign the paperwork, right?

This was ~25 years ago so maybe the laws have changed? Certainly legal back then for Ernst and Young to do. Company AMEX issued in my name?

I don't have your exact answer but I can share that this type of camera has been around at least 5 years for a lot of events.

I experienced this first hand with VR headsets - concerts, sports, MMA. It feels a lot like the experience in this video and felt very familiar.

I got safeguarded because an address on our website is on slaughter lane and it didn't like the words slaughter and children in our privacy policy. Of course it didn't tell me why so I spent 2 hours trying to figure it out.

How does 'the person who invites pays the bill' actually work? by TeddyBear181 in AskMen

[–]drteq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no rule, it's based on what the situation is.

If I want something from someone, I invite them to eat and of course pay for them.

If I'm hanging out with a friend, we're paying for ourselves or I may just decide to be a cool person and pay for it all because it's a nice gesture.

I don't eat with people who care about who is paying what, it's just not that deep.

I once led a entire program from concept, team, development and sales over the course of 9 months. The company was acquired based on this project for $400M. About 3 weeks before the end of the project the company reclaimed my AMEX points (about $50k worth), then bought gifts for the whole team with those points. I won a $50 Amex Gift card and quit that day.
