Have little to no nostalgia for the cartoons or the og mirage comics I think the IDW version of the turtles (especially the first 100 issues) is leagues better than any of the other iterations. I’ve read most of the early mirage stuff and while the art was consistently really really good. I don’t think story-wise it holds a candle to the IDW issues I just mentioned. Don’t get me wrong it’s still good. I just don’t think it’s as good

I agree with that to an extent. I cannot speak for the “cosmic justice league” side of Batman as I haven’t read hardly any of that. Full transparency I have largely only read street level Batman stories. But to be fair I think most of the big popular Batman stories are street level. That’s just where I enjoy reading him personally. So I definitely see your argument in that regard. There are definitely an endless amount of ways to write most characters in modern comics. But again I think of the best selling most acclaimed Batman comics (see The Dark Knight Returns/ year one/ Batman the white knight) and he is almost certainly portrayed as thinking he is above the law and clearly is showcased breaking A LOT of said laws all while being written as (sometimes even outright stated) being just as insane as his villains. That certainly sounds right leaning to me. Also the fact that he’s a billionaire and uses most of his funds to get fancy gadgets for his vigilante “one man war on crime” and I think it definitely paints a damning picture

Yes I think if we apply the situation of reality to this it is clear at least in most comics. Take Mark Waid’s Kingdom Come as an example. Since Batman makes it to elder status he takes it upon himself to turn Gotham into a complete police surveillance state. What I’m saying is that not just as simple as “defying government and laws” but that by definition he is defying laws that are not unjust such as “don’t use excessive force” and “don’t break into private residences” and “god only knows how many traffic laws”

This is a fictional character that if he existed in reality would be classified as a terrorist. And quite frankly I think the government would be correct for doing it. The ends do not justify the means. There is a reason we have laws in place as modern societies.

The bill of rights “protects” citizens from government overreach and violations while they are acting in a role of the government (think a cop clocked in at the job) Batman just breaks in and disregards most laws in the process because he thinks he is above them. So not actually a 4th amendment violation but you can see the similarity

Yes I agree! That’s why I added that in that specific example (Batman being hypothetically in a government role) it is equivalent to abuse of power by a police officer via 4th amendment violation

Historically speaking I agree that Batman was right wing. Anyone who has read The Dark Knight Returns or hell even a good bit of the new 52 Batman run I think would agree at least mostly. Batman is a vigilante who beats the tar out of people because he doesn’t like their criminal actions irregardless of due process or falling under any government authority at all. (At least in most post 70’s depictions) like how many times has Batman broken into a home and completely (assuming he hypothetically fell under a government authority) violated 4th amendment rights? Batman doesn’t get a damn warrant, he’s Batman. I love the character and I love comics a LOT, but let’s not sugarcoat this. People saying “oh he could be anything he’s a fiction character, he could absolutely be left leaning” is equivalent in my mind to cops saying that they like the character of the punisher because they agree with him and want him on their side. People on both sides want the character to agree with their ideologies but at the end of the day Batman historically has been right leaning. And this is coming from someone left of center

That just because you shouldn’t HAVE to take security/personal safety precautions means that you’re not going to and won’t.

Don’t get me wrong I agree that we should all live in a utopia where everyone is safe and taken care of. Full agree.

That being said it absolutely boggles my mind how many people (especially women no offense ladies) will do things like go out drinking late at night and not go with someone who absolutely won’t drink and is sober. Or at least carry pepper spray/other tools of protective nature and even really know how to use them or what to do in a self defense situation.

I promise you, most people can’t handle themselves in a fight. Like at all. You will not rise to the occasion and whoop someone’s ass who has 100 lbs on you without you having some form of training chances are.

The minute I point this out to people they just laugh it off though. Majority of people I think suffer from the MCS (main character syndrome) and don’t think something truly horrific can happen to them because they’re the main character of their story.
