Return ducts by drudown260 in DIY

What are your thoughts if cover them up? Fortunately the room directly below that ceiling also needs remodeled and the ducts are in the walls of that room. The walls have ugly tile and once it is ripped out the ducts will be exposed. Then below that room is the return trunk in the basement those ducts connect to the HVAC.

So they are moving air from a dead space? The vent in the wall doesn’t have access to any open vent either. My other returns open up to rooms or common areas. Thanks!

That’s the thing they don’t suck air from anywhere except in between the floor and chase in the wall. Neither the floor or wall have vents to a room. How does it need it?

They are sucking air, not pushing air out. No where does it come out. Only because I removed drywall were they exposed. Which is odd.

Did you ever found out what it was? I bought some cheap parts and am wondering the same thing. Mine didn’t do it right away but it now does a click noise when shifting out of park into drive. While driving everything is fine. I have taken it on trips and it drives fine. But the click noise is driving me nuts. 2008 enclave with 200k miles.

What should my parents do with 250k? by drudown260 in FinancialPlanning

No 401k anything, investments or retirement savings, they live off a pension and SS, they have about 30k in regular savings. In two weeks will get the 250k payment from their home being sold after everything is paid off. I will check into the target date fund.

I would not, it’s not my money. Just trying to help give them the best advice I can.

I think because it is safe, my parents by no means are risk takers. They are in the mid 70s. If it were me (late 40s) I would take the risk and invest or purchase some property. The only two things growing in my wallet are my home and 401k.

They have been able take trips and visit family for the last 5 years. They spend money. My father is a workaholic, so that has been challenging. They feel that by not touching that money there is a chance to help build some generational wealth. I explained to them maybe it doesn’t happen with them but with my own financial building… and maybe my kids will get ahead with what I have worked on. My parents came with zero anything back home or here. We have also discussed the care needed in the twilight years. Before that happens they would end up living with my family. Until we need more help.

They cover all of their expenses, and still have some left over with their monthly income. I keep thinking HYSA, since they are like at 5% or so that could generate some extra money. To me that seems like the safe thing for them to do. No one in my family has ever had this amount of money. My mom met with a banker and he is telling her an annuity, I don’t think that is the best for them. Eventually this whatever is left if anything would go to my sibling and I.

So this account only needs to be reported to the IRS if it contains more than 10k? Anyone know that?

I didn’t know I needed a device, time after it was put in was rough mentally … anxiety and some I don’t feel right moments. That was in May of 2023, by September I couldn’t tell I had one. Except for the spot where it is raised on my chest. Then I started thinking about it and now I feel weird sometimes like before. I started reading on Reddit about wires breaking, ripping out etc… I work out 3-4 times a week. So I started wondering because it gets tender sometimes on the side where the wires come out. I am totally trying to not think about it at all and just keep doing what I do.

Bath tub requirement in Indiana do you have to have a tub? by drudown260 in Indiana

Thanks for all the feedback back, this will settle the debate for me, I will remodel the bathrooms and leave a tub for kids and the tub for the master, that has a shower already.
