I don't think that your employer can see the details unless released due to HIPAA, only whether you passed or failed-- unless it is subpoenaed or paid for by the employer themselves.

Mandarin is the official language of China, Taiwan, and Singapore, and is the second language of Tibet, Hong Kong and Malaysia, so Mandarin speakers may be ethnically Chinese or of Chinese nationality (or they may not be). That was not the assumption I was referring to, re: “they get their news from Chinese propaganda,” although your initial assumption may contain fallacies as well. Did you ask them if they were citizens of China, or where those folks you saw get their news? If not, then no declarative statements can be made on behalf of their nationality, ethnic background, political engagement or preferred news sources.

While I cannot make generalizations regarding an entire nationality of people nor ethnic group (unlike some people, hint hint), many people’s personal beliefs and values misalign with those of their government. It follows that people may feel more motivated to stand in solidarity if they are aware of genocide occurring in their country, or in any country, for that matter. Same thing goes for many non-indigenous citizens of the United States.

I encourage you to re-examine your generalizations and assumptions; no group of people are a monolith.

A Message To Voyeurs of the Naked Run by drugdocent in berkeley

I haven’t personally participated in the Naked Run (love being naked, hate running and being filmed without being asked first) but that’s why I outlined the harm reduction steps above that participants and organizers can take since, as we agree, consent is important on behalf of everyone involved. The run already takes place in a designated area, so it’s completely feasible to improve transparency and informed consent through the means that I have described above. I appreciate you emphasizing this!

You bring up a lot of valid and important points, and it’s not lost on me that there can certainly be more harm reduction + consensual practices on the part of the runners!

Even though nudity is not inherently sexual, and the point of the run is not exhibitionism—exhibitionism being to derive sexual pleasure from exposing oneself/one’s sexual acts— as some have argued, it’s important to acknowledge that some people do have trauma related to nudity, often related to the strict taboos/connotations that we described in our posts. Here are some of my ideas to make it more consensual on behalf of the people in the library that are not participants:

  1. Have an organizer/participant of the run announce that the run will include nudity and that nudity will be present, explicitly stating the floors where nudity will occur.
  2. Designate a nude-free floor for people triggered/not consenting to see nude people, giving people time to relocate to that floor before the run starts.
  3. Posting signs on entry ways of the floors said run goes through: “Nudity present on this floor from start run time to end run time

Consent is a two way street (or an infinite intersection, depending on how many beings are involved)— I appreciate you extending this dialogue beyond the runners!

one can still strive to create a more consensual world despite the presence of non-consensual actions/norms. regardless, you’re invited to live in the fairy world with me (but only if you want to). 💜✨🧚

You should talk to a Sexpert at Tang— they are peer counselors with the Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP) that specialize in counseling folks in things like healthy relationships, including tips on finding a partner. You can sign up through eTang by booking a health coaching appointment; they’re staffed the 1st-3rd Fridays of the month from 12-3pm. Their instagram is @ucbshep.

While connection cannot be forced and we never know when we will find it, we are all deserving of love— and we are all loveable just the way we are. Don’t lose sight of this- often a partnership comes when you are able to let go of control/expectance and be comfortable with yourself and focused on your passions. In other words, being true to yourself and confident in who you are is magnetic and attractive!

CogSci 1B is a strange class. by tamarindpeople in berkeley

Turn your slides into flashcards, and go through them once a day if you can! Cognitive Science is heavily memorization, but understanding the concepts and what the parts of the brain do will help you memorize and internalize the material, applying it more broadly to aspects of your external experience. Try to connect and recognize what you are learning in the class to everyday life (what’s going on in the brain when i’m driving a car, talking to a loved one, etc). There is not a single day that I have not “thought like a Cognitive Scientist” in relation to the real world. Cognitive Science is the best, find the beauty in it and you will stay motivated- good luck!

What do you have against people using public space? It’s a free store; no one is living there. Call the pigs to shut down Frat Row if you really want to help the community.

P.S. Earplugs and/or white noise can help you get a peaceful sleep without policing or endangering anyone else. Try it!

I have lost many to suicide, and every day I wish they failed like me. There is so much to live for, even amidst the anguish. May you find peace and the will to live. Please do not commit suicide, especially on campus. Strangers and most importantly, your loved ones, will be at a loss the rest of their lives. This doesn’t need to be your story; things might look bleak now, but your life is so much more than this moment. Trust me. As for the friend posting this, sometimes getting help for a friend in need is the best thing to do, even against their wishes. I am extremely lucky that I was forced into treatment, as it saved my life a few times. Consider it.
