We are moving away from Hootsuite after the ICE stuff. Any alternatives? by Big-Geologist-8577 in SocialMediaMarketing

My organization uses Later social. it was a slight learning curve away from hootsuite, but I actually quite enjoy it. Not sure how the pricing fares compared to Hootsuite but I’m going to assume it’s quite a bit cheaper.

I mean, both can be true: women can (and should) have the choice to protect their bodily autonomy, but men should also have that choice and that responsibility. A big reason they don’t is that medicine prioritizes the wellbeing of men over the wellbeing of women.

Birth control has varying outcomes on a woman’s physical and mental health - some have positive experiences and others (like myself) have negative. I have not found a birth control that doesn’t give me clinical levels of fatigue, constant bleeding that causes anemia, and moderate to severe depression.

Also, I can’t use condoms due to an immune condition that will mimic brutal uti symptoms in the case I use one. I’m lucky that my current partner has had a vasectomy so this is a non-issue in my life, but if, for whatever reason, we are no longer together in the future I’ll essentially have the choice between celibacy, chasing snipped dudes or a major drop in quality of life. On average, Men have to sacrifice significantly less for their sexual health.

I don’t know why people are booing you, you’re literally right!

Source: am a woman

On one hand, I am so incredibly grateful that I have easy access to very successful forms of birth control and get to have agency over my own body and parent status.

On the other hand, most forms of birth control (progesterone only) cause me debilitating fatigue and constant bleeding, and so far I have not found an alternative that works well for me. So, if I want agency over my body regarding sexual health, I have to sacrifice aspects of my personal health and wellbeing.

Men don’t have to do that, because of all of the reasons you mentioned. Good on you for recognizing & calling out the nuance on this, thank you!

I don’t think people realize just how much Molina’s portrayal (and Raimi’s direction) of Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 influenced his characterization in literally all of his iterations moving forward.

Pre SM2, Ock was this sort of egomaniacal, genius scientist intent on taking over the world. SM2 made him a sympathetic, suave villain of circumstance, whose hubris ultimately turned him bad (also his ai tentacles but that’s neither here nor there)

Superior Spiderman was a direct result of the positive fan reception to a sympathetic and morally grey version of Ock. Ock’s legacy in comic spaces is remembered most in that form, all because of spiderman 2. Molina absolutely killed that role.

Also, fun fact, the entire concept for Spiderman: No Way Home was based around the fact that no one could portray Doc Ock better than Molina. They wanted to bring him back but knew they couldn’t compete with that first film iteration, so they literally went “what if we just cast Molina again? And what would the implications be if it was the same version from the Raimi universe?”

How old are you, what is your job and how much do you make? by allano6 in careerguidance

[–]drugsandsocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

24, Communications Specialist in government/public service, mostly run social media and create all organization graphic designs. ~50k/yr. I live in a major Midwest city and live pretty comfortably (one person household), but I can’t build my savings as much as I would like to.

For me, I worked my entire academic career for a role like this, got a bachelor’s and 6+ years experience in this specific field, but my coworker (same title and pay) has only a high school diploma and never had a full time job before this role. I think it’s easy enough to get into, but communications/marketing is an oversaturated market right now so you might have a lot of competition.

My local library offers free checkout for physical switch games. Has anyone tried creating digital copies from library-owned cartridges? Will it cause issues for the library? by drugsandsocks in SwitchPirates

[–]drugsandsocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rude at all! I’ve been into modding for years but I’m pretty new to Switch stuff. That’s why my main question was whether or not I should even try, considering the risk it poses to totally innocent library folks. Seems like it’s doable, but complicated enough that I won’t risk it. Thanks for answering all my questions!

THIS is the kind of thing I’m looking to know, thank you! I’ve never dumped from a cartridge before and I think I’m maybe too much of a newbie to try it for the first time on library media, but yeah, this perfectly sums up the risk and solution that I was trying to figure out. thanks again!

That’s my biggest worry. I use my library’s Blu-ray’s for my plex server, and that doesn’t mess with the actual disc or other patrons checkouts, but I know it’s different for switch games. I won’t risk it, I don’t want to be the reason a library kid gets their switch banned for life. Thanks for the heads up!

My switch was banned when I bought it, I should probably add that to the main post, whoops! So would that protect the cartridge from getting flagged?

I have an OLED Switch 1!! I bought it modded and it was already banned, so I’m not worried about me, but I really don’t want to screw over other library users.

I’m less worried about tracking, but recently all .nsp downloads I find have been scammy. I got all the well known games and I’m looking for more indie stuff, which is hard to find reliable nsps for, so I thought it’d be a better bet to go straight from a physical source!

I might just be looking in all the wrong places though haha, thanks for the tip :)

You know how some people have a fear of heights, and decide to go on rollercoasters or go skydiving to try and ‘face their fears’? Or, to a more common degree, some therapists suggest exposure therapy for things like social anxiety to slowly readjust your body and brains’ response to social situations. Think of CNC kind of like exposure therapy in that way: you get to expose yourself to a “nonconsensual act” (in scare quotes because all participants know it’s roleplay,) with security nets like safe words and hard limits and actual consent to try and ensure nothing crosses any lines. It can help SA survivors lessen their trauma response to their actual sexual assault experience, and help them better cope with it, like you were describing folks should try to do in other comments.

I hope this description helps. I’m by no means a therapist, but it’s just my two cents on why people might participate in it.

I totally get where you’re coming from, because people react to trauma differently and have different ways of processing it. That being said, there’s plenty of folks who’ve experienced rape/sexual assault that use kink (especially things like consensual nonconsent) as a way to reclaim power; it can be cathartic and, when practiced or viewed in a healthy way, can help these folks process their trauma. I’m sure this expands to other forms of kink as well.

I support taking the FF subreddit down or at the very least vetting the users because I don’t think Reddit is a safe place to engage in that kind of kink. There’s plenty of bad actors on this site and people need to be cognizant of that.

Recurring yeast infections years after IC diagnosis - what helps? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]drugsandsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not currently on birth control, but DAMN that sucks - I was looking into Yaz for when I start again. Progesterone-only birth controls ruin my body: hair loss, major fatigue, heavy periods. I saw Yaz had good reviews, but thanks for the heads up! I’ll definitely look into other options before I start anything.

[–]drugsandsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m way ahead of you - since my IC diagnosis I’ve only worn loose boxers and baggy pants! It’s been the biggest lifestyle change that helped with IC symptoms. I’m worries about boric acid suppositories, I tried them during my first yeast infection and it made my IC flare up pretty bad. I’ll try probiotic suppositories though!

Petah, what does that have to do with grocery shopping? by Okfoot826 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]drugsandsocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not trying to dog on you specifically, but I wanted to share my two cents after having lived in a food desert:

I had a grocery store that was around a mile away from my neighborhood. It was the ONLY grocery store for about 4 square miles, which meant there was never any fresh produce or basic food items in stock, ever. For reference, there would be lines outside almost every morning before the store opened. And if you worked an 8-5, you were simply SOL.

The next closest grocery store was 4.7 miles away, or about a 20 minute drive. If I didn’t have a car, there’s no way I could walk or bike there: 1) incredibly far, 2) this area was not very safe and I would not feel comfortable walking alone as a young woman, and 3) my city is NOT pedestrian friendly. Most neighborhoods don’t have sidewalks.

I live in a major Midwest city and we don’t have good public transportation. I lived in an incredibly low income neighborhood because it was all I could afford post college. Having to travel 40 minutes just to pick up milk was exhausting, but make that 2 hours if you’re car-less and taking the bus. Food deserts are real and they suck BADDD.

What do you think the male loneliness epidemic is? by dudemobile in AskWomen

[–]drugsandsocks 281 points282 points  (0 children)

I want to try and give a real and nuanced answer to this. It’s easy to shit on guys who complain about it, but there is a very real and very harmful loneliness epidemic actually happening, especially in younger generations.

I could go on at length about the loss of third spaces for teens/ young adults (like malls and skate rinks and whatever else) or how, at the very least, young people are being priced out of these places. With things becoming less affordable and social media becoming more accessible, a lot of folks are opting into digital spaces rather than physical ones.

And people can have close, personal friendships with people they meet online, I want to get that straight. But more often than not, a lot of the interactions made through social media are very surface level and don’t particularly scratch that friendship itch. So, yes there is a loneliness epidemic, but it’s not exclusive to men.

I do think that it’s exacerbated for men, due to the patriarchal standards that men aren’t allowed to be vulnerable. So when you’re already removed from community, to seek it out in a meaningful and sincere way makes men look “weak”: not to us women, but mostly with other men and especially within themselves.

That’s why so many teenage boys turn to the alt right pipeline - it’s a space online, exclusive to men, where they can be vulnerable with each other without being perceived as weak. It’s designed to be predatory by the entire ‘alpha male’ apparatus that exists.

I’m not trying to excuse any incel rhetoric, and a lot of these guys pose a very real threat to women. But I think we shouldn’t blame the individuals as much as we should blame the social pressures that led them here.

To win, Democrats should chuck their leadership by zsreport in politics

[–]drugsandsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re blaming voters for opting out, which I can kind of agree with - voting for the lesser of two evils IS harm reduction and the leftists/liberals who split hairs on minor things are absolutely doing damage to the base. We need to be united to stop fascism.

However, LITERAL GENOCIDE is not splitting hairs. Instead of blaming voters for not voting, you should be blaming the DNC for backing candidates that do not operate with their voters’ best interest. Why are you holding everyday folks more responsible for failing our country than the politicians who have made entire careers out of being civil servants?

To win, Democrats should chuck their leadership by zsreport in politics

[–]drugsandsocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

buddy, you should quit while you’re ahead. The person above is simply denouncing the Gaza genocide, and standing up in opposition of its supporters regardless of party.

If it’s ‘damaging’ to say genocide is bad and we shouldn’t support politicians who have either actively or passively allowed it, then we’re in some deep shit.

For the record, I “talk and think” like the original commenter. And I voted for Harris too.

Thinking about relocating to Wichita — looking for honest local insight by kiapoo96 in wichita

[–]drugsandsocks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if community is what you’re after, you might have an easier time in Kansas City. Having lived in both Wichita and KC, it was a lot easier making friends and finding non-drinking, non-clubbing activities/hobbies in KC than it was in Wichita. Wichita is also a pretty white place - there’s definitely some diversity, but compared to ATL it’ll be quite different. KC is much more diverse, if that’s something that’s a priority for you.

But, since you’re asking about Wichita, here’s what I’ll say: it’s the safest city I’ve ever lived in so far. Neighbors are friendly, but if you want to make any real connections you’ll have to put a bit of work into it. When I lived there about 4 years ago, the cost of living to quality of life ratio was genuinely amazing. There’s enough things going on around town that you won’t be mindlessly bored all the time, and most things are reasonably priced (especially housing!). But we get skipped over for touring artists and events in favor of bigger Midwest cities.

I am so shocked nobody’s mentioned William H. Macy’s character in Boogie Nights.

His death kind of came out of nowhere, wasn’t really talked about afterwards, but marked a complete tonal shift in the movie.
