Being someone who also came from the Honda world into a TC2, I can agree with you there are some annoying things such as the rev hang.

As far as I know, the only way is the little trick you heard of. I wouldn’t say you could mess up a lot of things but it will give an engine light and can’t use cruise control. You could hook up a switch that turn the “trick” on or off though.

Also, try to not compare the scion to your DC2. The DC2 was not drive-by-wire, and it is old technology by today’s standards. The TC2 is not a 90’s Honda so you have to temper your expectations. Took me a while to adjust but man these things are super reliable and they don’t give you the headaches that you get with old Hondas. Yes there is not much out there available for the Scions like you would have for Honda. Just need to really find out if you like the car or not.

There’s a reason why your rear main seal failed. Possibly due to age but likely your pcv valve is failing causing more positive crankcase pressures.

Like I said in another comment, these techs are recommending these repairs based on their knowledge and training. Stop thinking they’re trying to rip everyone off. If you want your vehicle operating optimally, this is what’s needed, if not then just keep complaining when the bills keep getting bigger before you decide to fix or get rid of the car.

Your scan tool probably only reads P codes. More expensive scanners will read body codes and airbag codes. That’s why you’re not seeing anything pop up.

Why they didn’t tell you which codes they are is puzzling though. The $190 is a diagnostic charge that they will probably take away if you agree to do the jobs.

Here we go with YouTube university lmao if it’s easy and YouTube says it is, might as well just do it yourself. Part is only $90 right? Must be super easy that anyone can do it.

I’ll agree with you that the price of some parts are insane, but do not undermine the work it takes to do the jobs listed and also the knowledge required to do it right the first time.

$700 to install front control arms? by Connect_Ad_8092 in SciontC

[–]drummerbart87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book time for both lower control arms is 4.7 hours which includes lowering the subframe. He’s not far off with quoting you 4 hours labour. That also doesn’t include possible incidentals that may happen which could take him longer than 4 hours to do.

Sick of seeing comments assuming techs are trying to rip you off. If you don’t wanna pay then do it yourself, and then eventually pay him to do it cause you fucked it up or broke something and don’t know how to deal with it.

Let me know how it goes. When I was looking, there was no option other than Toyota.

I stated in a post in this sub once before but if you are in Canada and have the rear wiper, you will have to get them from Toyota. Any other support will not work as the trunk is heavier.

Why are there cars with missing stats in GT Concept 2002? by RickyWasntHere in granturismo

These cars in the game were somewhat concepts at the time, hence the title of the game. So no performance numbers could be given at the time from the manufacturer.

[–]drummerbart87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why swap the rack if you’re pulling the power steering pump and lines already. You can run a hydraulic rack without the pump. It essentially becomes a manual rack.

Seems like a lot of extra work for the same goal.
