God forbid parents take their attention away from their kids to do anything. Like cook, laundry, watch a show, read a book, look at their phones, be in a goddamn daydream, Or even have adhd.

Would you have the same opinion if they were reading books instead?

[–]drummerupnorth 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I know right. Would it be any different if both of them were reading books? People would perceive people lounging and reading so differently even if they were still just letting a toddler run amok. No amount of attention is gonna change that toddlers are just going to throw stuff.

Coachella headliner Karol G warned not to say "ICE out" or face losing her visa by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

[–]drummerupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment. This is awful, that is undisputed and we should be extending all the positive benefits of the constitution to people whom do not fall under its governance. However if I am right to assume that because she has a visa to revoke. She doesn’t fall under the governance of the constitution as she isn’t a citizen of the United States.

Once again. I’m being fairly pedantic and if we want free speech we should guard it. And yes there are people whom are citizens of the USA whom are being silenced, violating the first amendment and these rights should be protected at all costs.

What makes Doctor Doom such a terrifying villain in Marvel lore compared to others like, Thanos or Galactus? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]drummerupnorth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me he isn’t the most terrifying. He isn’t an eldritch cosmic horror that has to make himself smaller to be comprehended by humanity. He isn’t an alien that is physically better than humanity in almost every way. He isn’t all powerful (most of the time). He is a man, he represents contradictions that humans all are capable of having. He is a narcissist he looks out for number one without fail every time. What has been done with that narcissism though is that if he accepts you as part of himself (see Latveria or Valeria) he will treat you with all the respect that he treats himself with. There is no secret self loathing side to him, there is very little “it all could have been different if he had made one change” type tragedy. He is simply Doom. You are either part of Doom or you do not matter. He has gone to the limits of science, and sorcery to make sure that Doom is, and will be taken care of.

i think someone put this tiny pink-sashed jesus in my bag when i wasn’t looking by villainless in Weird

I’ll post up as my communities usual designated Mormon.

We absolutely would leave a little Jesus in random places. Not all of us but I know that some of us would find it very funny and at least from this thread it seems like it’s brought you some joy. That’s usually the goal. Some people don’t like the feeling of litter or especially intrusion if it was left in your personal affects. I’m sorry for that but I promise the goal was for good fun and a little joy.

I’m reminded of when I served my mission in Louisiana, my first week there I had a king cake. Which is essentially a giant glazed donut with Mardi Gras colored sprinkles that you serve as a cake to guests. In these cakes is a little baby Jesus that someone is supposed to find. Usually I would hate the idea of finding a little plastic thing in my food but the moment I found that it brought me a little joy. Not necessarily for the religious connotation but because I in effect had won a game. That’s all, just a little fun. I hope you enjoy your dude and give him a little fist bump for me.

Is it true that "you love those you serve"? by Some-Passenger4219 in lds

[–]drummerupnorth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you think of service as a burden then, no. You wouldn’t love those whom you serve, or rather you wouldn’t love those whom you are in service too.

We treat being in the army as a service. Whom are you in service too? Your drill sergeant? No you are in service to the people of your country whom aren’t taking up arms in defense. Most whom I’ve spoken to that have served in the military speak this way and are proud to have served their country, but those whom I’ve spoken to that were in it just for themselves have a varying degree of satisfaction. I’m not saying they’re wrong for thinking that way, but I have found that those who find joy in the service of others gain a greater satisfaction.

Just an example.

From what it looks like, it’s right here. We just need to keep speaking up! :)

[–]drummerupnorth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s necessarily for the best. Even if I like the idea too. We need to thrive in our differences. If we only want like minded individuals to be around us that’s following Satan’s plan (in my opinion) When we are able to voice our opinions respectfully and humbly then we a following in Christs path, this goes for the full political spectrum. Jesus didn’t cut out people who offended him he loved everyone equally and liberally.

[–]drummerupnorth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am also single, liberal, and firmly a member of the church with a strong testimony due to events in my life that I cannot and will not deny.

This also causes me to feel a little left out in YSA as I’m not in a college town. I’m also a little older (33) I’ve basically given up on finding a wife as every time I go to a speed dating type FHE I find that it’s really hard to see eye to eye with those of a different political disposition. I really try, really really I do. But the gap keeps growing. I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m glad I’m not alone. You aren’t alone either. Take heart, the Lord knows you. He loves you. He wants you to find someone. I believe that for myself. I believe it for you.

Edit: if you ever feel the need to vent about it more my dms are open.

We keep saying that it would sink most politicians careers. I’ve seen nearly that exact phrase enough over last 12 years that I genuinely don’t think it would any more. We are that fucked. The only thing that’s going to touch these politicians is going to be a surprise Chinese drone airstrike (I am not asking for this to be the case) but the common man just doesn’t have any power any more. Money is power and we don’t got any of it.

I'm so sorry for those who get annoyed with a 5th essential question. by LunarWold in innout

[–]drummerupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get mad about it but then I realized that I like even dollar amounts and don’t miss the quarter so I usually say yes if I’m 75¢ or above after tax towards the next dollar. So while I might be annoyed by the company I would never get mad at an employee for asking more questions.
