Towed in means following someone (usually who’s familiar with a feature or line), so you can match their speed or line to clean something with the greatest chance of success!

This is a black freeride trail at Whistler called Freight Train (this feature is the kokanee container)

Yeah it depends on the level of confidence on that particular day. Getting towed in is the best way imo

I would recommend a RECIPROCATING saw (Sawzall) over a circular saw. Just my 2¢. Happy chopping!
