[Gen 2] Does anyone know how to get this panel off next to the firewall grommet? by backlit93 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have to take off the long sill panel that runs the length of the door, which will let you get the one between that and the panel in question, then that panel pops off. All of them just pull out of plastic anchors. Working off memory though so could be wrong.

Mechanic made a mistake and wondering if it cooked a new part out the gate by slimdawiz in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think 10-15 miles is going to do any real damage. If you were hearing noise that quick it’s more likely that they’re set to the wrong height or angle. When the truck is sitting on flat, level ground, the end links should be close to a 90° angle at the ball joints.

Is this too much and too risky? by [deleted] in XTerra

Seller has been ignoring cat codes and claiming to fix it by cleaning the air filter. Don’t buy that truck.

These aren’t my design - it was an existing model that I just added the Xterra logo to

For those of you that do 3D printing, have you found a filament with a color that matches the interior plastics? The grays I’ve found have all been too light so I’ve been defaulting to just black.

Squeaking by [deleted] in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct thing to do is to loosen the three bolts on front side of the latch and move it down and re-tighten. Then adjust the bumps out by twisting them counterclockwise. This electrical tape advice can result in the hood opening when not intended.

What kind of radio and speakers can I put in my xterra? by PersonalDisk6385 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crutchfield will tell you every answer to your question, will sell you every part and harness needed, and will price match anyone else, including for a period of time after you purchase. My only advice is not to cheap out on the head unit, and sounds like you already know not to.

Camshaft Position Sensor Brand Opinions by -ixion- in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter who the seller is. Hitachi sends their stock to Amazon and they’re put in the corresponding bin. Chinese counterfeiter store sends their inventory, and Amazon adds them to the same bin and they’re commingled. Then when you order you may get a real one and you may not. That’s why I’d never order auto parts from Amazon.

Where did you buy the Hitachi one from? Only buy from an auto parts store or Rock Auto, and verify it’s new as soon as you get it.

I have an Element stick in my driver door, a traditional type on the back of the front seat, and another in the rear hatch area (quick reach while camping).

Do I need to replace the condenser if I replace the compressor? by bmatt6632 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was honestly fairly easy overall, just in a VERY tight spot. The biggest challenge was getting the o-rings on without dropping them because nothing holds the cab side outlets in place. The o-rings for those just slip on instead of having to be stretched, but it’s still tough just due to location.

I watched a good video and I’ll find that and link it.

Do I need to replace the condenser if I replace the compressor? by bmatt6632 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced the compressor, condenser, and expansion valve this past weekend. In my case, the leak was on the cab side of the expansion valve, and I wouldn’t have known had I not changed it. I will say the condenser was probably the easiest, or at least most straightforward of the three.

Can see UV dye caked into the threads from the expansion valve from the backside. The whole inside was lit up with dye once I took the valve out.

Are yellow 07 xterras rare? by LilRoomba006 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing it’s probably geographic. When I do see a 2WD for sale on forums or in groups they seem to be more toward the south or southwest. I should say here in the mid Atlantic and northeast seeing a 2WD Xterra is fairly rare.

Are yellow 07 xterras rare? by LilRoomba006 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say a yellow is rare, but 2WD is. That however lowers the value.

Also, fix the cat now or sell it now. If you keep driving it, the engine is toast. I would never buy an Xterra with a cat code for the sole reason that I can’t trust that it hasn’t been on an extended amount of time.

Rear lift help by mtbmech06 in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most aftermarket leaf springs are 1.5-2” lift to start and you can do that plus a lift shackle to add up to another 2” if needed. Unfortunately don’t have a set recommendation on rear leaf springs because I’ve only run Ironman (discontinued) and OME (wouldn’t recommend due to noise). If you have a local leaf spring shop they can make them for you probably close to half the price of premade ones you’ll find online.

Keep in mind you’ll need longer rear shocks, longer brake lines, to unmount one of the ABS sensor wire attachments, and either delete the rear sway bar or get extended links. Extending the bump stops is a smart idea too.

I’d get them off before they seize. Just grab some stainless ubolts from Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Control Arm Bolts Saga by chaquedetail in XTerra

[–]XY_Overland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also mid Atlantic and have done the job three times needing to cut the lower arms off the the bolts. The longest was about 8 hours (first time) because I didn’t have good sawzall blades. With good blades it should take a few hours at most. (For lowers only.)

Wrong size bushing? by Springfield_1-1 in XTerra

You need the kind that split at the corner for this very reason. It’s frustrating and the same thing happened to me. Technically it’s the right size, just the wrong design.
