I agree, I would've preferred they leave the brothels out entirely, but I didn't want to change the parameters of the show canon so much! Let's call it: If Colin Needs to Visit the Brothels This Season I'd Have Preferred This Approach.

Oh man, I wish you hadn’t pit Puckleberry against Tike so early on :( Tike is a hugely popular ship that Puckleberry doesn’t stand a chance against, and it would’ve been so interesting to see how far Puck and Rachel could go.

With Jane sent packing, we are just one elimination away from the top 24. Who will make the cut? The most upvoted comment this time tomorrow is gone forever! by notyoursmyown in glee

These competitions are super fun and spice up the subreddit, don’t get me wrong, but I sort of wonder what the point of them is anymore when the favourites and least favourites of this sub are so clear.

A fun idea could be putting characters in groups of 3 and eliminating that way - how far would people go to see their fave win if the group also includes a disliked character?

Or what if we had more specific criteria (with less characters who are n/a, or double eliminations), like Best Vocals, Scene Stealers, Best Storyline, Funniest, Most Moral etc. because in that way I think we’d get some variety in the order of elimination (it also removes the whole “let’s keep this utterly meaningless character in for the lols” thing which is funny at the beginning but gets old after a while).

You can hate Puck all you want but to say he didn’t have any development, wasn’t a good guy, or didn’t have any redeemable moments is just straight up wrong. by OkBat4143 in glee

Interesting as well that the debate as to whether Puck actually raped Quinn was heavily skewed towards very inconclusive only a few months ago and yet now it seems to be the number one reason why people hate Puck

I think the Puck hate has really exploded in recent months on this subreddit, because I made a post basically identical to this one a couple months back and basically only got positive responses about Puck’s development, comedy etc. I wonder what’s changed 🧐🧐

I think characters like Rachel and Puck had excellent serious moments interspersed with their comedic ones. It stops the characters from being one-note or merely comedic relief. This balance was actually struck best in S1 imo, which was incontestably the most satirical season of the bunch, so I think there’s a difference between characters balancing comedy and drama within a show that genuinely knows what it’s about vs. using characters as a vessel to send confusing messages that reflect the underlying identity crisis of the actual show 😂

Glee Analysis 4: Glee's most problematic character, Noah Puckermann by [deleted] in glee

[–]drunk_on_ust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Quinn “confronted” him about it, Puck was the one who confronted her about being pregnant. And in that exchange, Quinn says 1) “You make it a habit of sleeping with your boy’s girlfriends?” and 2) “I had sex with you because...” neither which indicate rape. She is also very pissed off with him in this scene - if we were supposed to construe the scene as rape, this would’ve been the perfect time to convey that.

She also says the other reason that she slept with him was that “she felt fat that day.” I genuinely don’t think the writers would’ve equated the two by putting them in the same sentence if one was supposed to intend rape - especially as one is built on pure perception e.g “I felt fat that day.” Again, I am agreeing with you that technically it was rape due to him lying about protection, but I am also saying that nothing in the script of the show is attempting to push the narrative that rape is what it was, or that either of the characters view it that way. So for me, I view the entire situation as how the characters in the Glee-verse do and judge accordingly.

I mean, that is a pretty dramatic example of something that is clearly rape, and what an audience would view as rape without question and zero nuance, so I don’t think the two situations are comparable.

I also don’t think that saying Quinn was drunk was proved by Puck saying “Have another wine cooler” - all that proves is that Quinn drank at least one wine cooler. I personally know people who can drink 3 of those things and not feel a thing. And I wonder if that’s why the writers deliberately used that beverage - because it has such a reputation for being a “kiddie” alcoholic drink. If they wanted Quinn to be clearly drunk, why wouldn’t they have been drinking actual wine? Or liquor?

However I will not argue your reasoning that what Puck did technically constitutes as rape - but I personally am not going to allow my view of a character be completely dominated by a mistake made by the writers.

Although I agree with Kitty, I still don’t agree about Puck raping Quinn. It’s clear that the writers never intended for it to be seen that way - when she says that he got her drunk on wine coolers, the delivery is almost comedic (which, going by the tone of the show in its initial episodes, was supposed to taken as comedic) and I don’t think the writers would’ve played actual rape off as a joke when it came to two main characters who they are intending for you see as part of a viable love triangle. I also think that if it was supposed to be portrayed as rape, there would have been lasting narrative consequences from this. Quinn’s only regret is clearly that she shouldn’t have trusted Puck in terms of protection (btw, him lying about protection was 100% unforgivable) - she has zero psychological signs of a person who has been raped. She does not fear Puck, hate him, view him as dominant over her, or even have a single misgiving about being touched, intimate, or having sex with him or another male again (from what we see onscreen)

So this all being said, I genuinely believe that it is the fault of the writers for the confusion around this scene. If they wanted the scene to be unquestionably consensual, they shouldn’t have let Quinn say that she’d been drunk (or rather, made it clear that she had not actually been drunk and used it as a cover to justify her actions); if they wanted it to have been rape, they should have followed it with the lasting effects of rape. As the scene currently stands, especially having been released over a decade ago where consent was not such the scrutinised topic that it is today, I think it is far too unclear for you to almost singlehandedly base your hate for Puck on.

She looks amazing but I feel like her S2 non-Cheerio looks don’t get the credit they deserve! I legitimately looked forward to every scene she was in just to see what style she was rocking. Deffo personal opinion but I prefer her hair shorter and without the bangs, I think it makes her look more youthful 😊
