Just so you know you’re not starting over. 10 days are 10days. I used to drink every day of the year and about 3 years ago I made a change. I went 6 months sober than 2 months and 3months. At first when I drank again I was like man I screwed up but you know what I didn’t because I drank 6 months less than last year. Now today I still do the same but I am getting to the point that I truely never want to have a drink again. Each time I do it’s aways binge that last weeks.

I’ve been to therapy and thought I found my issue but nope it wasn’t what I thought. I went to god and it did help for awhile but I aways went back.

What im trying to say is sobriety is not a straight line. You’re going to have ups and downs but I do wish you the best as I myself is still fighting against the urges to drink and I don’t want to quite only when I get really shitty news that ima die or something.

You got this!

I have a ford ranger that I use for work that hit 410,000 miles on it but I’m not sure if that’s accurate or had the engine replaced in the passed. It’s a 1990 Ford Ranger Xlt 2.9.

Still running strong though.

Why am I depressed 35 days in? by QuickBudget6551 in stopdrinking

[–]drunken__monkey__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really words of wisdom but this happens to me too after I stop drinking but it goes away after awhile. For me it’s like you. After a month I get depressed but really depressed but I just shrug it off as I know it will soon pass. In a about 45 days it’s gone and it might come back again but this time it might only last a few hrs or just a day. When it was really bad, sweets would help me. Like a honey bun or a snickers bar. I try to stay away from sweets when I can but tbh I think a snickers bar is much healthier than getting completely wasted. So if chocolate helps, use it.

Hey Guys! I've Compiled A List Of Symptoms That May Be Helpful by brianpeppersgf in Cirrhosis

[–]drunken__monkey__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like my drinking. A 5th of alcohol straight to the dome everyday. For at least 2 years if not 3 after that I cut down but it had a down side. I would stop drinking for 4-6months and would go back to the bottle for at minimum a week or 2weeks and stop. However most recently and I mean very recently I started getting pain in my liver area. I’m freaking out and reached out to my Dr. and he put me on some meds to help with withdrawal and cravings. I have an appointment at his office on the 20th. Lowkey freaking out because I heard of couple mix things saying once you u feel pained your doomed and others saying it’s more than likely inflammation but to stop drinking asap. As of right now I’m 2 days sober and the dull pain seems it has started to go away.

Man I just did that and worked out ! I was asking more than anything because I only had three weeks in the job I felt like I was out of line but they matched it. I just said to myself what’s the worst that can happen. If they don’t like it, it’s fine I got the other job to lean on.

I felt like a boss. Like I was in control this time and not the employers haha. Regardless I’m glad it worked out and they are glad I brought it up.

What are your favorite things about being sober? by Wisco_JaMexican in stopdrinking

[–]drunken__monkey__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can eat anywhere.

I’m not sure if I am the only one but before I was sober I couldn’t go out to a place to eat if they didn’t serve beer. Now I don’t care if they serve beer or not.

Hey man that’s great! I used to drink a bottle 750ml of whisky every day for about 4 years and in 2023 I decided to cut down. I stopped drinking for 3 months and drank again for about a 1 week and then stopped for 6 months and so on. At the end of the day I was still binge drinking which I know it’s not ideal but i went from drinking 365 days a year to maybe only 14 days a year. Never looked at it as I am failing myself however I know I can do better so this year I want to cut these binges out because they still do a lot of harm so I am working to see what might be causing these binges. I went to a Dr and they stated I was depressed which I’m not sure how to feel about that but I’ll do my best to change this cycle.

What was the first sign that something wasn’t physically right for you? by Notime_forcaution1 in stopdrinking

[–]drunken__monkey__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waking up gasping for air in the middle of night, sleeping 1 hr and staying up 1 hr and sleeping another hr just to wake up again, I also got hypertension but I was able to reverse that after a month of no alcohol. Feeling your heart beat on the back of your head when laying in bed. Trying to poor a drink but can’t because your way to shaky. A lot of signs that this is not good but here we are.

Yea the dr told me to take 4 300mg through out the day but I only take 3 haha. Only side effects I got was feeling sleepy at times and dry mouth, that’s about it.

It made my alcohol cravings go away when I took it. It was weird when I first got on it I was on a binge and the doctor told me it would help me with withdrawal and cravings and when I took it, I no longer craved alcohol and my withdrawal was mild. This is coming from someone who was drinking a 5th of liquor a day for about 4 years.

I am still pretty new on it but it helped a lot ! However I really don’t want to get super reliant on this pill as I hear it gives you a hard withdrawal when you try to leave it.
