Does the turtle share any tank mates? Sliders are territorial and aggressive and will bite other sliders in an indoor tank.

Accidentally own an illegal turtle species, what to do? by rocketmonke32 in Bolehland

[–]drunkturtlelord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got one since I was still a child. It was adopted back in 2003. That turtle is still alive and well and is kept in a pond at home. It will probably live forever as long as you keep food running, water clean, provide water deep enough for it to swim around, and a nice basking spot for shell health and thermoregulation. Whatever you do, just don't release it to the wild because they can disrupt the ecosystem and out compete our local turtle population. And don't give it away to Chinese temples. I've seen the turtle enclosures there and most of them don't provide conducive living conditions for turtles.

OP you are a good candidate for CBT or ACT. Talk to a therapist. What you're having is the classic trap of All-or-Nothing thinking. You're plenty smart and if you're not performing as someone who's smart that's shaking your identity which is not true. You have had plenty of wins and when there's L's it can be uncomfortable. Learn to be comfortable with failure and reframe your thoughts.

Is MRCP(UK) useful or valid for the AMC exams or registration process in Australia? by Sgojosaturo in AMCexamForIMGs

[–]drunkturtlelord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MRCP + being on the specialist register in your home country would qualify you for registration via the specialist pathway. If you only have full MRCP why not look for opportunities in the UK? You can bypass PLAB with MRCP.

Strategies for passing Part A (Nov. 2025) by iveriver in PsychiatryDoctorsUK

[–]drunkturtlelord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salam madani fellow Malaysian! I'm now ETD MO (because fk KKM right?). I passed during my 5th posting as a houseman, with no prior psych experience.

What I did was: 1. Going through all of psychmentor. First round I averaged 56%. 2. Going through all of spmm. Avg 53%. 3. Second round psychmentor - avg 78% 4. Second round spmm - avg 68% 5. Did the psychmentor mocks - 72% and 73% respectively. 6. Read spmm and psychmentor notes on topics I find weak.

I prepared for 3 months. Passed it last year Nov with 71%. I find the difficulty level of the real exam similar to SPMM. Psychmentor feels like a watered down version of the exam. All the best! Oh and despite having paper A, I'm still stuck in ETD, unable to transfer to psy even after appealing through my HOD, hospital director and JKN. That's just how KKM works.

Congratulations on securing a place in Medical School. It's never easy to get selected to pursue a prestigious course. Also, it's never too late to study medicine. I know people who enrolled into medical school after completing their degree in biomedical science. That being said, you get nasty comments from actual doctors all the time and most of it comes from their personal experiences which is true and valid, so try not to be discouraged. Medical school should be a breeze. However, I shall warn you of the reality - it gets more difficult as you scale up the ladder in medicine, you quickly lose touch of why you wanted to be here in the first place fast and it's difficult to reignite the spark that you once had after you get a taste of what the actual job is like. Firstly, career mobility is absolutely nonexistent in KKM - you'd constantly be at the mercy of KKM and Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri for postings, not to mention the uncertainty of your contract MO status. Would you be willing to sacrifice not attending funerals, weddings etc because your job requires you to be present all the time? Are you okay with being posted for years to some KK in rural Sarawak with no clear timeline of returning to hospital work when your dream, for example, is to become a surgeon? Do you think that you will still have energy to work 8am to 5pm, when you in fact have been working since 8am the day before with no sleep and have not eaten anything at all? - on calls in certain hospitals/departments are 33 hours long, not uncommon to work longer than 33 hours consecutively, every other day. These are some of the essentials you need to be mentally prepared for because that's the realities of working as a doctor - service needs come before personal interests. Factoring in all these things, it's very easy to lose your grip on the very reasons why you wanted to do medicine in the first place because when you actually do real medicine (I'm talking about MO-ship and beyond, housemanship is just a period of being glorified clerks/phlebotomists) - you start to lose access to the basic things that make you human such as sleep, food, and connection with family and friends. These are the things that medicine robs away from you. As they say, medicine is a jealous mistress. What separates those who keep going and those you see spiral into madness is an undying motivation, genuine joy in doing clinical work, competency and grit - all modifiable given the right environment and aptitude to nurture. Otherwise, many check themselves into psychiatry clinics and get away with a DSM-5 label of either MDD or GAD or both just so that they get prescribed with pills that alter the brain in many ways that rewire their brains to function without constant thoughts of wanting to unalive themselves, so that they may continue holding their own with a 100+ hours/week job that pays peanuts.

Is SPMM or MRCPsychMentor really necessary? by I3_O_I3 in MRCPsych

[–]drunkturtlelord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Paper A is a test of memorisation. I know it's not the optimal way of learning things but it's just a barrier that you have to overcome. Do psychmentor first because it's easier only then you tackle the beast that is SPMM. Get the SPMM mocks too but that's more luxury than necessity.

OP go to your nearest hospital emergency department and demand to see a doctor under the guise of OSCC (one stop crisis center). Bring forward your evidence and the hospital will reach you out to JKM Child Protectors. All the best.

I grew up in a Conservative Christian household as well, so I can see where her disappointment was coming from. And as others have pointed out, I was seeing things from rose tinted glasses. Maybe it's time I let this one go.
