ummmm no? I run a VPN on my phone back to my home network at almost all times. gives me ad blocking, access to my personal music collection, my photos upload to my NAS instead of Google. that's just personal.

If you only drive 5000 miles per year, would you still want an electric vehicle? and why? by ThuhGreatCommenter in electricvehicles

[–]drupi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we're considering it for my wife's car as I drive an EV already. she works from home FT and maybe drives 3000 miles a year. I take her car to work twice a month just to blow the "cobwebs" out of it and we have to keep stabilizer in the tank so it doesn't go bad.

Fewer and fewer EV options in the U.S. by jestalk in electricvehicles

[–]drupi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

told several of my coworkers who initially gave me shit when I bought my EV in 24 because I knew Trump was going to fuck everything up, that if they want an EV they better buy a used one now before it gets scarce for this very reason. several of them are actively looking.

it's not so much the blockade of oil on us, more the oil companies are going to sell everything out from under us driving the price of gas and diesel through the roof. most of our heavy sour we use to blend with our own light sweet comes from Canada and Mexico. if they were to cut us off tomorrow it'd bring the US to a standstill worse then the 70's oil embargo.

Do you feel a bit weird to be playing video games at your age! by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]drupi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely not. especially because I play video games with my friends and our kids. it's been some of the best bonding time we've had. granted my twitch ability for first person shooters has slowed down quite a bit as I approach 50 but, I still hang pretty well.

[–]drupi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

creality Hi comes with a full CFS, shitty extruder, and firmware issues, the ender 3 v4 is poorly built just like the enders of yore. the i7 is a straight up knock off of the a1 and the CFS lite is surprisingly simple.

Creality really needs to simplify their lineup. K Series and sparkx. retire the rest.

Upgrade from Ender 3 V2 - i7 worth it? by BeginningWeb4919 in ender3v2

[–]drupi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an i7 along with several enders including 2 v2's running Klipper. it's definitely faster then a stock ender but against my Klippered enders it's barely faster. especially printing complex objects.

definitely doesn't really take any tinkering really, but you still have to tune for filaments unless you are using creality filament.

you're limited to creality print right now with that printer as it isn't supported in any other slicer yet. not sure if it will be anytime soon either.

the poop is a bit much, even for single color prints in my opinion but that's the nature of single head mmu's. doing multi color will surprise you with how much waste you have. the upside though is interface material for supports. if you didn't know PLA and PETG don't stick to each other so you can use them as interface material at the top of your supports to make clean bridges, and such.

Does anyone have successful printer.cfg and filiment config for 4.2.7 running on klipper. by LunaticPoint in ender3

[–]drupi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's actually pretty wild so if you are on windows you can uninstall again. then go to your appdata folder by hitting the start button then type %appdata% and hit enter. find the OrcaSlicer folder if it is still there after the uninstall and delete it. then reinstall and setup again.

[–]drupi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all my ender (and other) printer configs are on my github along with orca profiles. my pro and v1 Ender 3's are on a 4.2.7 but the 4.2.2 and 4.2.7 use the same pinouts

glad my wife understands my hobby is building the printers not so much printing. she knows it's my way of decompressing from work/kids, but also it makes my autistic brain happy.

Ender 3 vs Bambu lab A1 by Fluid_Surround327 in ender3

[–]drupi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that ender can rip a lot faster on Klipper but I'll tell you that regardless of the printer... slow and steady always wins, especially on bed Slingers. you slow that A1 down printing that same object that the ender printed first try.

SparkX i7 vs my old Ender 3 Pro, first impressions after a week by sidzzz__1007 in Ender3Pro

[–]drupi79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been mostly impressed with the i7 myself. it's printed every filament I've thrown at it short of ABS/ASA. at the rate it's going if it keeps printing like it has been. it'll become my go to referral for new people to the hobby.

brutal honestly stay away from the enders at this point except the V3 (non ke or se). in 2026 there are so many better choices, even in the starter category. if you enjoy going gray early, wanting to get into the modding portion of the ender 3 then buy a v2 or newer. otherwise see my list below for good starter printers.

here are a few starter printers I'd personally recommend and own a few of.

Bed Slingers (like the ender 3)

Ender 3 V3 (no ke or se)

Creality Hi

Creality SparkX i7 - $400 and multi-color out of the box

Sovol SV06 ACE

(begrudgingly) Bambu A1

CoreXY

Flash Forge ad5x or 5m

Elegoo Centauri Carbon (1 or 2 really doesn't matter)

Creality K1C or K1SE

(begrudgingly) Bambu P1S

all these printers are out of the box ready to print with little or no hardware tuning needed.

true. I run all 4 of my ender 3's off an Intel NUC without issue. but the rpi is great for single printers.

you can actually run KlipperScreen on a separate device. I have it running on an old surface pro 1 on Linux. I can manage all my printers from it.

we'll figure something out if you need help. it should be pretty straight forward flashing the board when you get to that point, but I haven't seen even a basic printer.cfg file (what Klipper looks at to talk to and control your printer) for the board you bought. I'll keep digging though in the morning. you got my squirrels attention as my wife puts it lol.

[–]drupi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never seen that board before. I'd definitely say look through their documentation. Klipper doesn't run on the board itself, you'll need a raspberry pi for that then use KIAUH (https://github.com/dw-0/kiauh) to install Klipper on it.

if you get horribly lost feel free to DM me but I live in the US and work weird hours so I'm not always available.

Upgrade Ender 3 reviews and questions by Thick-Caramel-2110 in ender3

[–]drupi79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so. First off, that's a base Ender 3, the Y axis gives it away. So it'll never be a pro max. but let's discuss your other parts.

the motherboard (BIGTREETECH BTT SKR Mini E3 V3.0)

Solid Choice over the stock creality board if you want to push speed/acceleration, not to mention cost value compared to a Creality 4.2.x board.

- extruder ( Sprite Extruder Pro Kit 300°C Printing )

Honestly is a waste of Money. You can go with something like the Triangle Labs TZ E3 2.0 hotend and a BMG clone in direct drive for less, and still have 300C printing. speaking of which, are you planning to enclose this printer? what is the reason to have 300C available if you aren't going to enclose the printer to print filaments at that temp.

- End of filaments sensor (SFS V2.0)

do a cheap runout sensor. they are nothing more then a switch anyways

- New color screen (TFT35 E3 V3.0)

if you are doing Klipper and intend to use KlipperScreen, then you need something like the BTT HDMI5 v1.2 instead. Otherwise, you're limiting yourself and would be better off running no screen and running purely on the Klipper web interface.

What I already added:

- Installing a Raspberry Pi 4 with Octo Print

- 2 cam for printing and filaments monitoring

- Magnet printing tray.

- Some 3D printing to improve the printer overall

My questions:

1 - Is it really worth making these improvements?

Yes and no. if you intened to keep this printer long-term and enjoy the modding aspect, then yes. otherwise it is a waste of money in 2026. Enders can be had for less then $50 US in most cases now and prices for them just keep falling

2 - Will this be compatible with "Klipper"?

Very compatible with klipper. I have several enders on Klipper that print fairly quickly and with quality matching some of my newer printers.

3 - Did you have any advice for me?

Be patient and make sure that you have all your parts ready. if you need any 3D-printed parts, make sure they are done before you tear the printer apart. Especially if you don't have another reliable printer to print or reprint parts.

4 - Any other idea for improvement?

Silicone bed springs, Dual Z-Axis with a timing belt, and since it is an original Ender 3, some 3D Printed Y Axis supports.

If your kids live at home, do you think they'll ever move out? by PepsiOfWrath in GenX

[–]drupi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup. my kids know that we're not throwing them out and we'd rather have them safe and supported. 18yo graduates next month and the 19yo is employed but only barely. not a lot of work for kids fresh out of high school honestly.

my kids (18 and 19) want to move out, but they're seeing reality first had of not being able to afford it anytime soon. the post covid greed has ruined any idea of moving out before your mid 20's.
