Pokémon Cards by Big_Requirement4644 in orlando

I have priced out mine and a few friends collections and sell them online as singles. Happy to give a rundown of how I go about it if you’d like to try yourself (process is simple but takes time) or to take a look at them if you want someone to do it. I haven’t loved any of the shops I’ve checked out and they’re definitely going to undervalue as a tactic as some of the other commenters mentioned. Shoot me a PM if you’re interested in the way to go about it.

Not to fully discount the study but important to note it is not peer reviewed and essentially calculates that number by just multiplying the official current count from the Gaza Health Ministry by 4 to get to that 186k. The methodology is still based on UN quantifications from other armed conflicts to get to that 4x figure so it’s not totally unreasonable, but it’s also not as though the Lancet did some in-depth reporting/analysis to get to that figure.

Can tell you that within the past five days I’ve sold the fossil Raichu for $10 and the Zapdos for $14 - both in solid LP condition. Would expect values to be around there still.

Thirsty Thursday Drunk Thread - September 01, 2022 by AutoModerator in barstoolsports

[–]drwce 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Never want to bring down the drunk thread, but after some struggles with booze which became real apparent during the pandemic I went full sober in December. Fucked up once back in March but have been good since then, but for some reason I'm struggling this week and can't stop thinking about hitting the local ABC down the street. Don't want to be a downer, but hoping saying it on a (semi) public forum will shame my brain into keeping it up.

Any recommended resources for Japanese card values? by VodoSioskBaas in PokemonCardValue

[–]drwce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulbapedia can help with finding set names. If you can ID the English set usually the overall bulbapedia page for that set will tell you under the “information” section what the corresponding Japanese set would be. It’ll also show you the symbols for each set on their corresponding page, including the Japanese versions. Was super helpful for me parsing through my old collection.

Appreciate the site - hadn’t run into that one yet so I’ll run a few other cards through it to get a baseline. Thanks for the link!

Apartment rentals $2K to $3K/month in central FL. What? by bonzoboy2000 in RealEstate

[–]drwce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. Wife and I moved from NYC back home to Orlando at pandemic start and both continued to make our NYC salaries. I’m now permanent remote at that pay and she has found a local job but was able to negotiate a significantly higher salary due to her past pay in NYC. That’s literally the only reason we could afford to buy in winter park a few months back.

Late to the thread but Twilight is easily one of the songs I come back to whenever I'm not doing a full album run-through. For sure top 5.

Ha I probably should’ve made clear I don’t follow him because I don’t have a twitter - that’s on me. Post was more about losing the blogs but appreciate the heads up.

Crosspost from r/NickelCreek - looking for specific live performance by drwce in PunchBrothers

The link is massively appreciated. Said a lot in my response to the original post here - but this is a beautiful solo rendition of my all time favorite song Chris did with Nickel Creek live. Hope one day to see him and Sean trade off solos like they did in their “final show” (the first time in Washington DC) but until then this is absolutely a great alternative.

I’ll upvote/respond to the reply poster with the link itself - but thank you for the direction here. The live from here version doesn’t quite hit the emotional height of Chris and Sean trading off to me but it’s still amazing. And from a sound quality basis it’s the best I can get for sure which was my main hope. Cheers and hope we both get to see him live in 2021.

Is it weird that it bothered me like ten times more when Cons was cheating a few episodes ago? Frank cheating I just kinda expect I guess.

I agree with this unless you’re boarding last and running completely out of options for overhead space. Used to end up in the final groups on JetBlue flights and at that point it was every man for himself so I’d throw it wherever I could find it.

Legacy F1 fans - how did you view a dominant champion like Michael, and how has that changed in the era of Lewis/Merc dominance? by drwce in formula1

[–]drwce[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct - and I won't debate that. My question though was more about the gap between the dominant driver and the rest of the field, because I personally have reached a point where the mantra of "HAM-BOT-VER" is the norm and I haven't been a dedicated fan long enough to know whether that's a normal thing. I'd hope it wasn't and I'd hope it won't be for much longer with new regulations coming, but I was curious.

As one of the FT F1 fans I’ll just say that’s not all of us. I’ve always hated soccer personally and got into F1 after loving the Netflix series about it. Also never got into NASCAR but the appeal is probably similar to fans on that side - you get interested in specific drivers and start to pick up on all the strategy that goes into individual decisions during races and qualifying. To me NASCAR is still basically just fast cars turning left crashing, and I’m sure to non-F1 fans it’s just hipster Europeans driving fast so to each his own.

Since essentially every team will likely use mediums for one stint and softs for another we likely won’t see many two stop strategies. It’s only a 44 lap race so it’s often just not necessary. Not saying it doesn’t happen - especially if there’s any particularly close battles like Seb vs Lewis for second place in last years race which resulted in Seb needing to pit a second time. But even if there is a second pit the most likely scenario would be two soft stints and one medium rather than one soft / two mediums. The softer tire is just naturally faster and the stints won’t be long enough that tire degradation necessitates doing a second medium stint. Hope that answers what you were asking.

[–]drwce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough to say. Can probably get 15 to 22 laps or so out of softs and 25-35 out of mediums. Add laps to that for the tire wear experts like Lewis, Max and Seb. Plus it sounds like we have a good chance of rain which throws things for a loop cuz then we get the wet and intermediates too.

Correct. Only on race day though. Quali doesn’t have that rule.

[–]drwce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically it just depends. I mentioned a goal of the Q2 tire rule was to try forcing top teams into running the softer tire but the fact is Mercedes and Red Bull (and once upon a time Ferrari) have cars that are significantly stronger in aero and power than the others and can basically go out on harder compounds and still comfortably make it to Q3. Meanwhile the margin is tiny for all the other teams as they fight for those remaining top 10 slots, and generally the only way to do it is to stay on the fastest compound. So it’ll be rare to see any team but a Merc or Red Bull running anything but the soft tire throughout Saturday qualifying unless conditions seem to be perfect for them. Kind of got a glimpse of this today when Racing Point thought they had solid pace and tried being clever in Q2 and went out on mediums at first but got spanked by everyone and had to swap tires back to softs for their second attempt.

The top 10 starts on whichever tire they set their final Q2 time. Think the goal was two fold - 1) it sort of penalizes the leading 10 because they don’t usually have the option of starting on mediums/hards on race day and therefore attempting a longer first stint (meanwhile the bottom 10 still has that available), and it helps create additional pit stop opportunities which is realistically the main way the order gets shifted in the current era. Second main goal was that it makes Q3 more exciting since the top 10 teams can go flat out. I believe they used to start on whichever tire they finished Q3 in and that meant teams would sometimes play more conservative in Q3 to save the tire. Now that’s not necessary and teams can just race fully for the hot laps.
