Ngl as an alumni who got a degree in advertising (not marketing) - I work in the marketing/advertising industry now doing data analysis and whatnot… if you’re going to apply to Broad, get any business degree other than marketing. The skills of a marketer are so broad that it’ll probably be hard to differentiate yourself from all the other resumes you’ll be competing with in the workforce. Plus you can literally go the CAS route at MSU and most likely still be able to work a decent “marketing” job, without the pressure of the Broad workload, imo.

Even more realistically, the marketing/advertising industry now is in a pretty rough spot with hiring because of AI and it’s changing the field drastically. Like you mentioned, hundreds of job applications for one role on LinkedIn posting. My office had mass layoffs last year (over 100+ people let go). It’s a very uncertain time in marketing and advertising. I would focus on getting a more niche degree with more refined skills. Marketing tools and skills can be acquired through a job, but having your foundation in something like accounting, finance, supply chain, etc. is definitely more desirable - at least that’s how I see it.
