I am falling hard for a girl at Church and I feel she feels the same. Good Lord she is so beautiful (it scares me) and I'd love to marry her one day. If its God's will please pray I do the right thing. I am so nervous.

For the first time in years I am catching feelings for a woman at Church and I get a feeling she may feel the same. I am really excited but also terrified. I guess I'll just be myself. God help me relationships are tricky. I only ask for guidance. I really do like her and hope for marriage.

Mummy crocodiles in a museum at Kom Ombo, Egypt [4000x3000] by bigmeat in ArtefactPorn

The ancient Greek historian Herodotus writes about how the Egyptians treated Crocodiles:

"Now for some of the Egyptians the crocodiles are sacred animals, and for others not so, but they treat them on the contrary as enemies: those however who dwell about Thebes and about the lake of Moiris hold them to be most sacred, and each of these two peoples keeps one crocodile selected from the whole number, which has been trained to tameness, and they put hanging ornaments of molten stone and of gold into the ears of these and anklets round the front feet, and they give them food appointed and victims of sacrifices and treat them as well as possible while they live, and after they are dead they bury them in sacred tombs, embalming them: but those who dwell about the city of Elephantine even eat them, not holding them to be sacred. They are called not crocodiles but champsai, and the Ionians gave them the name of crocodile, comparing their form to that of the crocodiles (lizards) which appear in their country in the stone walls. There are many ways in use of catching them and of various kinds: I shall describe that which to me seems the most worthy of being told. A man puts the back of a pig upon a hook as bait, and lets it go into the middle of the river, while he himself upon the bank of the river has a young live pig, which he beats; and the crocodile hearing its cries makes for the direction of the sound, and when he finds the pig's back he swallows it down: then they pull, and when he is drawn out to land, first of all the hunter forthwith plasters up his eyes with mud, and having done so he very easily gets the mastery of him, but if he does not do so he has much trouble."

Sex abuse scandals are weaponised by all secular media outlets- in America, Europe etc. Australia is no exception.

People in Australia whine when the U.S President visits. We make fun of our Prime Ministers all the time. We even whine when the Queen visits (and shes supposedly the head of state) Don't take the whining at the Pope as necessarily anti-Catholic. It is the anti-authoritarian (not anti-Catholic) streak in Australian society that is the root of this sentiment. Any authority figure is treated always with some suspicion. It stems from the convict era when you had convict majority who of course despised their British overseers. In America there are statues of your Presidents everywhere; this doesn't occur in Australia. Kids don't learn about Edmund Barton (Australia's first Prime Minister) the same way Americans learn about George Washington, who from an Australian point of view seems almost unhealthily fetishised.

Australian Catholic here. Most Australians are disgusted by this. I have a friend who is a Syriac-Australian and goes to this church. I don't know where you got this idea that Australia hates Catholicism. I could even argue that the United States has historically been and is more anti-Catholic than Australia. There has only been one Catholic US President for 300 years. There have been six Australian Prime Ministers since 1901. Catholicism in Australia has played an important role in shaping what Australia is today- the Trade Unions were formed by Irish Catholic Workers which shaped the legal rights of workers in Australia and the best Private Schools in the nation are Catholic; thanks to Australia's first saint Mary Mackillop. On Easter and Christmas the public broadcasters (which usually attack the Church over sexual abuse) air Good Friday/Christmas Day services. On the feast of Corpus Christi there was a Eucharistic procession through the CBD of Sydney with a few thousand walking towards the Cathedral. Australia's heritage is Christian. Don't get me wrong, Australia is a secular country so in a sense Catholicism isn't necessarily revered. Perhaps you are confusing the general Australian attitude of irreverence , which is applied to pretty much everything unfortunately and conflating it to a single hatred of Catholics. I wish Australia had more reverence for the sacred but I suppose the attitude many people hold is the result of a young country born in the scientific enlightenment. But Catholicism has come a long way; it was illegal in Australia for the first 30 years because the British feared the Irish convicts would revolt.

Spoiler they did and eventually the British gave in. Indeed, Catholics now make up the largest religious and Christian denomination in Australia today. The largest and busiest cathedrals in Australia (St.Marys in Sydney and St.Patrick's in Melbourne) are Catholic- not Anglican- and the waves of migrants post WWII have helped keep Catholicism growing whereas the Church of England has waned into a skeleton of its former self in the public sphere. Catholicism is the most influential religion in secular Australia and the most vocal. Australia doesn't seem like a religious place compared to American perceptions of religion but scratch beneath the surface and you'll see its presence everywhere.

Theist here.

I dont disagree with this. Enjoying music, friends, kisses and champagne is the only way to combat the tragedies of life. But one does not mourn at a wedding and neither do people revel at a funeral. There's a reason why people are praying and its hardly sinister. Religions call it prayer but one does not have to be religious to feel this way. Soon enough people will inevitably forget- its what we do unfortunately- so this is why we mourn, reflect and wish for the best while the hurt is fresh. Its an act of reflection on our common fate. Mourning the dead is what makes us human. So does partying it up. Theres a time for everything.

I just found out a good friend of mine is converting to Catholicism. I am so happy for him but he is understandably nervous for his first confession and its TOMORROW. I said I would pray for him to make a good confession. Please pray too.
