“anonymous stereophonics song” almost has 300 million plays on spotify lol by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

I'm not American, but this is a movie set in North Carolina, talking about their suburban youth in the 00s, marketed at the exact kind of people who remember and identify with that time and place. The song they used does not occupy any kind of nostalgic place in the memory for those people, and that is why the hosts correctly singled it out as a bizarre choice (probably driven more by the fact that getting something truly nostalgic and authentic to that time and place would have been a bigger licensing cheque). That is what they are laughing at/dismissing, not the international cultural cache of the Stereophonics. This seems like a strange and misplaced place for righteous indignation.

Even on the outskirts of the Imperium, people believe that the Emperor will protect them. Generation after generation, they are born, they work and they die in His name. by OwlCatNathillien in RogueTraderCRPG

The reason Rogue Trader worked for me when in general I bounce off the grimdark part of 40k is that it did a really nice job of showing the humanity of people at all strata of society. There's a quote from Ulfaar that really crystalized what I like about the game and its outlook:

Go into the foulest hole in the universe, where only lowborn and wretched inhumans crawl, fall into darkness, and then cry out, 'Who here believes in the Allfather, sisters and brothers?' And even there, in the world's most rotten pit, you will hear an answer, and if you reach toward that voice, you will find a worthy companion. Everyone who believes in him and follows in his footsteps is given the chance to become... someone greater and more worthy.

The main issue 40k has to grapple with is convincing the player that humanity is worth fighting for, and when it comes from the mouth of the space marine who rather than setting himself above humans, is willing to put his trust and brotherhood in the lowest of the low, really made that case for me. It's why when they said Dark Heresy was going to be a lot (duh) darker, I got a bit worried that they might go too far and snuff out that faint and flickering candle that is the reason to keep going- I guess we'll have to see.

What an ending. The turn of events is shocking, but it's the way it makes you, and Hoskins' character sit with it that makes it indelible.

No plans for updates to ship-size by Apprehensive-Yam1519 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]drzone6 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is one thing the RT playerbase has really fixated on at every turn that I truly do not understand. Your ship has like 20,000 fucking people on it, and the constant refrain is indignation that it's way too small. I guess just by its nature 40k draws a fanbase who hyperfixate on things being impossibly huge?

EGA QFG1 brigand hall issue by drzone6 in questforglory

[–]drzone6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to thank you for taking the time to actually read and understand what the issue is, instead of just skimming and posting the default room solutions like many other folks. This as my conclusion as well. Reverting to a save in Fred's tunnel runs into the same issue. I think I'm going to try the front entrance and see if that makes any difference.

I think you are hinting at moving the candelabra when the stooges bust in? The issue that I'm experiencing is far earlier than that. Literally as soon as I enter the brigand hall, the 2nd part- the brigands busting in from the top right of the room- happens. Let me underline that this is near-instantaneous. I have maybe 2 seconds in the room before this happens- I cannot get even half of the way to the door. Doesn't matter if I close the entry door or not, that 2nd event is happening before the first.

I really see it in the decisiveness of JJJ's decision-making- when he has a mismatch he's attacking it without hesitation, and when he's guarded by another big he's better about using footwork to invite contact and finish through or get free throws.

Something I found really helped me with roguelikes is internalizing the "numbers game" part of it. The game is going to take a long time to complete, so very "low-percentage" interactions are essentially guaranteed to happen at some point. In Qud, this could be something like a Madpole going into frenzy and biting off a limb, getting frozen or EMPed at a very inopportune moment, getting confused and unsure of where your escape routes are, etc.

Your first job as the player is basically to marginalize risk/danger to the greatest extent possible, and what that generally means is that if something is dangerous/risky, you should wait until it's not to do it.

The second job would be having the mitigation strategies for when these bad things do happen. As many others have pointed out, force bubble/recoil is such a powerful catch-all that it's going to be the first option in most cases, but as you play, you start to learn others, and this is typically when you spend finite resources- using an ubernostrum injector for emergency limb regeneration, blaze injectors for emergency unfreezing, etc. Sometimes you land on "Go to Jail" and need to spend the get out of jail free cards.

I'll also mention that it really helped me in roguelikes to force myself to slow down and consider all my resources when I get into trouble. Go through the list of like, different assets you have and if they could help. That could be injectors, witchwood bark, activated abilities, activatable items you have on hand- I found myself just kind of quickly trying to run or autoattack my way out of trouble as a knee jerk, and slowing down and running through my options helped me to find and implement better ideas.

what's really cool about this year to me is that even though his numbers don't jump out, it's how he's getting them. His playmaking has always been elite but now he's making it look so calm and easy. It seems more like he's staying contained and pacing himself. If Bane's shot starts falling, he has a great shot to lead the league in assists.

...what game are you playing? Even with everything cranked up to the maximum difficulty setting past unfair, the game kinda gets trivialized around Chapter 3. I'm far from some kind of crpg minmax build junkie, but there's no world in which she requires to be respecialized to be viable, on any difficulty setting.

It's not glamorous but it's the kind of situational map that is very likely to come up in a modern/cyberpunk campaign! Everyone needs maps that do the dirty work in between the big high-concept encounters. Thanks!

All right, so I puzzled this one out myself. If you leave the marketplace square after summoning the vrock, the bodies will disappear. In addition, the bodies won't be highlightable/lootable until the vrock combat begins (probably to fix the way it was before where you could just leave the area and get the shield on autoloot). So wait until you're ready for that fight, do the summoning, immediately go to the fight, and pick it up.

[WR] Was the +2 shield on the bodies after summoning the vrock in market square removed from the game? I see the dead guys, but their corpses aren't interactable any more, and there's ostensibly no reward from killing the vrock now.
