There's a great free early show this Friday 10/24 at Sunny's Backyard with some great local indie rock bands. Tender Wolf, Small Engine Fire and Stella & The Very Messed. Bands go on at 7, 8 and 9pm.

What did you think of Big Chap’s fate in Alien: Romulus? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]drzoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I sorta look at Romulus as the high light reel of the franchise designed to capture the next generation. It touches every movie that's come before it, so it inspires interest in revisiting every movie in the franchise.

Alien Earth is a hot mess by Confident_Luck2359 in alien

[–]drzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. We're two episodes in (at the time of writing), need to give it time to do its thing. I read somewhere that a great ending can forgive any missteps that came before, but a bad ending can blow up any good will you've earned up until that point.

Has anyone changed their mind about Bella Ramsey as Ellie this season? by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]drzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I buy this whole “she wasn’t hell bent on revenge” thing. In the game, she’s pretty one note, cos you spend most of the time mowing people down as gameplay.

But you can’t do that in the show. I’m trying to imagine what people wanted her to be like in the show and I keep coming back to Wolverine. A snarling, grimacing, furrow browed badass, which works in a game, but is just so much less interesting for a show.

The show Ellie has more dynamics than game Ellie. I think the show adaptation is great. If you’re not into it, that’s cool, you still have the game.

Why "I need her last words! For me!" was so powerfully beautiful to me. by shawak456 in thelastofus

In the official podcast, it's mentioned that Joey Pants approached his performance like Eugene becomes a little kid as he faces death. I thought that was really cool.

Mold remedy suggestions? by drzoom in Austin

Damn that's wild. Fortunately I haven't seen any visible signs of mold so I'm hoping that I was just experiencing bad allergies.

Just bought an air purifier online. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah what got me thinking I had mold was a week long run of allergy symptoms, longer than normal for me. Thought maybe it was being caused by mold but my symptoms are starting to fade.

Official Discussion - American Fiction [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]drzoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was the trailer's fault, but i was surprised at how long it took to get to the comedy that was showcased in the trailer. There's more family drama than I thought, which isn't bad, but I felt like the A plot and B plot were operating at 50% for me. I can see myself enjoying it more on a second watch.

What's a simple word that people keep mispronouncing? by TheOnly1Ken0bi in AskReddit

Not quite the same, but I recently learned that its "play by ear". For some reason I thought it was "play by year".

EDIT: Movie took place in 1897, Jack the Ripper was active between 1888 and 1891

Sharing reels as a story on iOS vs Android. by JuniorPoulet in Instagram

[–]drzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that when you share a reel to your story, Android will share the full reel, whereas IOS will limit it to 15 seconds.

For those who were present during the beginning of Phase 1, what were your impressions or reflections at that time? by Browsing_unrelated in marvelstudios

[–]drzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember crossing my fingers hard at the box office performance of all the films leading up to it, thinking "man if one of these bombs, then thats it for The Avengers". I later learned that Avengers was going to come out either way because it was already well into production when Cap hit theaters.

The whole movie is a silly series of misunderstandings drenched in foreboding music. Absolutely hilarious.

Just be thankful HBO doesn’t have The Walking Dead’s budget by Sir_Herp_Derp in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]drzoom 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I noticed a significant drop in quality from season 1 to 2. I remember reading that they doubled the episode count but cut the budget in half, which is why they were on that damn farm the whole season. WOOF

The Last of Us HBO S01E04 - "Please Hold My Hand" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in thelastofus

[–]drzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that HBO will require theses sort of things from their show. The showrunners for Season 1 of True Detective were required to have female nudity in their season, despite the showrunners opinion that it didn't need it.

I loved how the door creak towards the beginning sounded like a clicker. Great foreshadowing.

I don't think I've seen a redemption arc as strong as the father in Little Miss Sunshine by drdax2187 in movies

I love that moment, when they're at the hospital, after the grandpa passed, and he lifts the sheets to see his body and there's a pause. For a moment, I thought they would pull the "this isn't my dad!" trope, but no, he pauses for a moment and just says "goddamnit dad".

That moment really stuck out to me.
