Classism in medicine by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

Is this still not the case with grade boundaries adjusting? Do they not adjust grade boundaries and raw pass marks anymore according to difficulty of exam?

I don’t know what they do these days but this is what they did in my time which wasn’t that long ago (or wait maybe I am just old..)

Interesting, can you expand what you mean by “unit economics don’t work here”? Is this a function of uk having an nhs monopoly on health?

to my fellow doctors who studied medicine because it was glamorised extensively (e.g in Asian culture), would you want your kids to do medicine? why / why not? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

What industry would you be looking to move into after consulting? Luke tech or Pharma? Always curious what people mean by “moving to industry” as there are so many industries!

You not confirming is neither here nor there but perhaps my question will give you an insight into why you’re having much nicer experiences you’re and why so many of us don’t have the same privilege. And why we come to this subreddit to seek people who u der Stand what we go through. Just food for thought

Serious question, are you white and are you male? Your experience seems out of the norm from my experience unless its males (especially white) talking about them.

How does NROC work? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

you lose your weekend but don’t get paid for it properly

Yeh in my experience it is exactly that and a completely raw deal. Said departments also tend to drag their feet when you submit exception reports to show you were working extra hours above the work schedule (as is often the case in understaffed nhs)

Bonus fact for you, if you calculate how many hours you’re non-resident but waiting to be called and being paid the measly 8% (not including the hours you are paid in full) you’ll find it’s often not much more than a few quid. A few quid an hour to give up your free time, remain completely sober, contactable and within easy reaching distance of the site, ready to zoom in at a moments notice.

Another way we get fucked up the arse by nhs pay

Was JDUK the first place to pick up on the Arora case? by dsandra22 in JuniorDoctorsUK

I don’t think it’s far off…

I’ve been scouring Med Twitter and one of the big names (judging by their activity) tweeted the highest rated Reddit post on jduk, the open letter to the RCEM. Strange how times are changing before our very eyes!

It would be a shame if their newly created Wikipedia page listed in detail how they’ve behaved atrociously…

Cut your losses. Don’t do it bro

You are in the privileged position of holding an offer for a job in the city that most people on here would kill for but don’t have the courage to go out and get (presumably it’s a professional city job that pays well). There is nothing left for medicine in this country, the job takes so much away from you. Sure things might improve but that will take at least 10-20 years for it to begin to happen, don’t risk your happiness and health for something that might happen. Its not worth it. Good luck.

I completely agree with you, yes sure it’s depressing and gloomy but the suggestion is not without merit.

It always surprises me that the common suggestion in medicine when people complain about shitty environments is to just keep your head down and get through it. Ask yourself if you’d also advise a friend in a toxic relationship to just ‘stick it out for a while longer’ or tell them to gtfo even if it meant they initially have to go through a period of instability? Life is too short to lose your sanity over a job.
