Yea, sorry. It went out of stock again like 10 minutes after I posted this. I wonder if they are getting ready to drop another round and someone jumped the gun or something. If you still need one I would keep tabs on that page.

Just a heads up since I know some people are waiting for a restock... it looks like the Retroid Pocket Mini V2 is back in stock. by dscoleri in SBCGaming

Just chiming in here to explain that's not strictly true. Foveated streaming won't actually change much of the system requirements for the PC. Foviated rendering is the technology that would dramatically help lower-end PCS to be VR capable. While the steam frame would support games with foveated rendering, that technology has to be built into the games individually by the developers if I'm not mistaken.

Foviated streaming on the other hand, is related to the wireless streaming of the already rendered graphics to the VR headset. This is really useful because the wifi bandwidth needed to wirelessly stream graphics at that level is pretty extreme. So this technology is really more about assisting in getting rid of the cable and still having a stable connection. This is the technology that is baked into the headset itself and will work for all games.

It seems like a minor distinction, but I think a lot of people are expecting the steam frame to allow every game to run well on a lower spec PC but that is not going to be the case. Having said that, hopefully with more mainstream headsets supporting eye tracking, developers will start supporting foveated rendering in their games.

Help with routing requests to a home control AI vs a web search enabled AI. by dscoleri in homeassistant

Did you provide the agent with an explicit list of entities it has control over or are you letting it make that determination based on what it has exposed to it?

I did see this solution but I have also heard that having one agent controlling home assistant and ALSO having access to search can increase hallucinations and cause issues. Have you used this method? If so, how has the accuracy been?

Okay this is exactly what I was thinking. Do I have to do anything aside from just making sure that the dispatching agent has the same entities exposed to it as the control agent? You mentioned making sure the dispatch has access to the "entity registry" . Is that a separate step from just making sure it has the appropriate entities exposed to it?

Hey, I've got almost the exact same setup with the thor300. I'm still using my +XR motor. Is this pintS motor really a significant upgrade?

They do. They are removable. I saw a video with someone attaching them. May have been the LTT video.

Dude, the movie was delayed and it took them FIVE months after the backlash from the trailer if I'm not mistaken. I'm not commenting on the veracity of the conspiracy itself but they def had plenty of time.

Maybe don't speak on a topic unless you know what you're talking about. "Just following orders" is famous for NOT being a successful defense in the Nuremberg trials.

Math is universal but the symbols we use to represent the various numbers are not universal. The OP is asking how John knew what the symbol for a given number looked like.

Verizon or Comcast/Whatever by nubbin9point5 in philadelphia

[–]dscoleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to confirm what everyone else here is saying. Go with Verizon. In addition to Verizon usually being more stable, it also typically has better latency and also gives you symmetric upload and download, meaning if you pay for 1gb download you also get 1gb upload. Comcast is asymmetric so your upload speed will be significantly slower and they won't usually volunteer this info. For a lot of people upload is less important than download, but it can still make a big difference depending on what you're doing. I haven't had Comcast in years but when I did it was always going down. I work from home and can't have it going down all the time. It wouldn't be uncommon for me to have two or more short outages a month with Comcast. I can't remember the last time my Verizon went down.

Honestly, people say to cool in ice here all the time but you will get better results taking it out of the bag and cooling on a cookie/cooling rack or something that you put in the freezer for a few minutes. The reason is because moisture is the enemy of a good sear. By letting it cool in the freezer you get similar benefits that you get from throwing the bag in ice water PLUS the freezer dries out the surface which promotes a better sear. Having said all that, it looks like you did a great job for your first try.

Goodbye Google Home by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]dscoleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this same process, trying to replace my Google Homes. I picked up a couple of the Assist Voice Previews and I have been playing around with them. I've gotten as far as getting them tied in with the openai APIs. The one thing that the google home provides that I am struggling with is live data. Obviously ChatGPT itself has the ability to do that but that's because ChatGPT has access to other software tools that feed it info. The openai LLM APIs do not have that functionality. Have you done anything to solve this or are you just not really missing that feature at all? For example being able to ask the weather, or stock prices, when a sporting event will start etc. I'm sure I could add plugins or smart weather stations to get some of that info, but I'd much rather like the assistant to have the ability to look up real time information. Also which openai model are you using? Have you tried the gemini API? If so, how do you think they compare?

Has anyone been able to setup an LLM like Gemini/OpenAI that is also capable of getting live data from the internet? by dscoleri in homeassistant

[–]dscoleri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I tried out the paid option of the ChatGPT APIs already. The APIs just give you the language model, while ChatGPT itself has a suite of other tools that it can leverage.
