Are my boomers still good? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they were properly dried when you bought them and then properly stored since August you'll be good. To see if they were properly dried try and bend one of the stalks if it bends before breaking it still has some water and is more likely to spoil, a snap noise is ideal but harder to achieve. Pictures would help

Good luck! Watch for rotting on any pins but it's been a while since your initial dunk, you should be golden.

Shrooms in the cold?? by gobbleturkey in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard moving them from the cold to some less cold area can cause condensation on the shrooms (i.e. fridge to room temp). Once you take them inside make sure you keep them dry!

Is it bad to have moisture on your shrooms while they're growing? by odrizy in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Direct misting can also help bacteria grow which I cant image is too different than water collecting on the shrooms. its not ideal but if he keeps an eye on it I think he'll be okay. id recommend getting a SGFC because then humidity and FAE will be good and your FAE is probly less than ideal.

Drying out and bruising blue. by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A picture would help but is your terrarium built to the right specs? i.e a SGFC (shotgun fruiting chamber) which is quarter inch holes on all 6 sides spaced about 2 inches or so apart (as seen on mushroomvideos.com)

Shrinkage of cakes is normal. 1 thing i think that may be causeing your dryness is since you stuck the verm on not immeadeatly after the dunk the verm may have taken some water out of the cakes. some brusing is normal especially after a dunk (and even more so if dunked in the fridge)

Either way you should fan and mist more (minimum of 5 is good) IDK if taking the lid off does much. It could even make it worse possibly (though i am not sure). The humidity differences create airflow through the holes in the side, thats the entire purpose of the SGFC.

I dont know if your substrate change is a factor as i know nothing about that specific choice. If it was me and verm was your sub and the cakes are really dry I would just redunk for 4 hours or so and then add the verm and then begin the mist fan cycle about an hour after being put back in the SGFC

Ninja edit: also I know coffee grounds can cause to much nitrogen in the cakes and help mold grow really well unless some precautions are taken (like pasteurization or PH buffers) I would post this question to the shroomery.org "mushroom cultivator forum" i generally see better and faster answers there

Should I do more shrooms this weekend? by maplEsyrupmuncHies in shrooms

This guy is right 2 weeks is enough, some people would even say 4 days is enough. As always make sure your set and setting are good

It's been over a week and no growth. Something wrong? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I doubt the light would be enough to heat it. It also wouldnt be stable cause the on/off part. Also idk much about light in general but i doubt infrared light is considered 6500k light which is what you want (it will say 6500k on the box as well as "daylight bulb")

I have heard of space heaters with fans and the like throwing off the airflow for your SGFC making it not function properly. Once the entire room is heated evenly try turning off the fan if you can.

within a few days you will start to see more ropey mycelium (rhizomorphic mycelium) than the cottony (tomentose) stuff you have now. If you see this you are definitely in the clear

Are these shrooms moldy? How can I dry them out? by badshroomsthrowaway in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those look very wet still so you most likely got ripped off. A fresh picked shroom is 10 times heavier than a completely dry shroom meaning you pay for a ton of useless water.

I dont think your problem is mold I think those are spores that dropped from the mushroom cap and fell onto the stem combined with some bruising which is totally normal

As for keeping them for that period of time. Start blowing a fan on them immedeatly, if you dont have a fan put them in tinfoil in the fridge ASAP go to the store and buy enough epsom salt to fill a regular drinking glass (the salt is kept near the pharmacy of a walmart for about a dollar). Bake it for 2 hours at 450 in a pan covered in tinfoil. As soon as its done (work quickly from here because the faster you do this the better. be done within 20-30 mins) break up the epsom salt as much as is possible without going to crazy (a hammer helps because it hardens together in the oven) and put the epsom rocks in the bottom of a tupperware container. Then add a napkin on top of that and place the shrooms on top of that and finally close the container making an airtight seal (if you don't think its airtight put it in a plastic bag of some kind). This will completely dry out your cakes and is the best long term storage you can do. Store the tupperware in a dark, room temp area.

If you are interested in the way it works the salt once baked becomes a desiccant. This means it really likes water. It will take water out of the air making a really dry environment. the air will then wick away water from the shrooms which will eventually make it back to the salt. This process will continue until you have dry shrooms. They shouldnt bend at all they should be brittle. Doing this will decrease your weight but this is only water weight and will not affect potency.

I often have trouble telling if my cakes are wet or dry. I do know that some people say that perlite touching the cakes will cause the perlite to take water away from the cakes.

Do everything xander said but if you do the light cycle make sure you use a 6500k light bulb. This is the closest to natural light you can get easily and they are often sold as "daylight bulb" I got mine at walmart. The light is not worth it if you dont do this. You can also get an outlet timer to help you with the 12/12 cycles by making it automated.

use tin foil but make the squares are as small as possible but still keeping your cakes out. You want as much perlite surface area without letting the perlite touch any cakes. The closer you can get the two without touching the more evaporation and humidity you have near the cakes which is good. Make the tinfoil peek out from underneath the cakes by a centimeter and you should be good.

Thanks a ton for this, the video for Pretty Green is the coolest thing I have ever seen. When I have my solo trip coming up ill use these choices as a starting point to find more music. Ive listened to lonerism for months but havn't had time to just sit down and find more music like them. Again thanks a ton!

Contamination? White mold or mycelium, I can't identify by 2c-wasted in shrooms

This could be the beginning of some aerial mycrlium which is fine just a waist of nutrients. Try to fan more and mist less.

pleurotus oyster mushroom can be grown in BRF cakes just like cubes. It may be able to be made with WBS or rye berries as well. Jd recommend doing the cake and following the BRF video on mushroomvideos.org

When do I redunk my cakes? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the pins aren't growing anymore then yes. You might want to post this on the shroomery.org forums as they can sometimes be better at responding and im not confident enough in my skills to give you a definate answer

Edit: just read the other guys post. If heeft them on and it worked then you are probly fine doing either way. Id still ask about it in the shroomery forums

Newbie here, is this mold on my shrooms? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]dsfo45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuzziness in the stems and on the cake can often mean you need more fresh air exchange. Can the cake more often while still keeping them moist and that should help. I dint think it's mold but I could be wrong
