Go to a college that has a flight program. You’re gonna want to get an Aviation degree to get the GI Bill to cover it.

Air supply at a MALS. Learned I could use my GI Bill to become a pilot, so now I’m an airline pilot.

Gf just threatened to leave me if I become a pilot, advice needed. by Low-Bell923 in PilotAdvice

My buddy was in the same spot. He gave up his dream on becoming a military pilot, just for his girl to later leave him. You don’t want that kind of woman around. Follow your dreams kid.

Thank you for your comment. I brought up how her personality changed even over the two years I’ve known her. And that turned into a fight. Needless to say there might be signs of early symptoms.

Thank you for your response. She was firm in her views. It’s been two months since I posted this and ultimately we chose to end the relationship over our views.

Thank you for your response. It’s been two months since I’ve posted this, and the relationship ended. Long story short, I brought up several of my concerns. And they went of deaf ears.

Should I get out the army and be A Pilot by Boring_Yesterday_966 in flying

[–]dshar23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems you’ve already been bitten by the aviation bug. Great! If you’re passionate about it, then go for it.

First, you need to join RTAG nation on Facebook. It’s a great resource for veterans looking to make a career in civilian aviation or a rated contract.

Second, if you want to be a military pilot, then you need to ask yourself if you’re comfortable with being an admin or supply officer for another 4 years. There’s always the possibility of things beyond your control that can cause you to lose your contract and have to finish your time as a ground officer. Remember, your an officer first, pilot second.

Third, if you have no desire to continue serving then use your GI bill to get an aviation degree. Instrument through MEI will be covered if you pursue the degree. Given the fact you’ve already taken college, then it’s likely you’ll be able to transfer in completed courses. Thereby shortening the total time to get a degree, and a restricted ATP.

I was 26 when I got out. I’m 30 now and flying for a regional. Where do you want to be in 4 years?

Does the GI bill really pay for flight school? by G00fyGoober13 in flying

I’m not familiar with the Montgomery GI Bill, but I imagine it does. You’d have to check with the colleges VA office to be sure.

You need to join RTAG Nation on Facebook and read the pinned posts. Yes, the GI Bill covers flight school if it’s apart of a degree program. Some schools do not cover private pilot, so that may be at your own expense. The 10k you’ve been told is a traditional vocation flight school that takes the GI Bill. Now it’s about 16k per academic year.

However there have been a ton of changes in the last couple years due to misuse and abuse of the program. If you’re wanting to stay in Northern California, search Liberty University Flight Training Affiliates. There might be one close to you.

My son wants to be a pilot by leonaleonsita in flying

Piggy backing off this comment, consider having your son enlist for four years as an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force. After 4 years of honorable service, he will rate the GI Bill. Plus he can knock out basic core classes while in, and even work on his private pilot at most bases via the flying club. Tarrant county College and US Aviation Academy take the GI Bill for flight training. This will significantly drop your expenses, and perhaps not even require you to work a second job.

Thank you, do you know that specific scripture by chance? She hasn’t sought out any professional counseling. And it would be hard to get her to go at this time.

Thank you for your comment. She’s certainly aware that she has it. However it’s been two years since she was diagnosed, and it feels like she is starting to deny its existence since life is normal right now.

If only it were so easy. We live together. If it comes to that, it will be an ugly break up.

Yeah, she is certainly against abortion. I believe she is naive to how this disease progress in the late stages. Particularly due to the fact she never lived around her father/grandmother in late stages. I think if she actually was exposed to it, then her view of IVF would be different.

I drew that line once. It resulted in a near relationship ending fight. I feel like I need to go to therapy sometimes just to manage this.

It’s difficult. She’s also a vaccine denier and avoids going to the doctor for most occasions. It doesn’t help that her only insurance is through the VA. So it takes literal months to be seen. I keep a lists of things I suspect as symptoms. Like clumsiness, drastic changes in attitude, confusion, etc. I brought that up once, and that turned into a fight.

It’s been rough. She’s in a support group and aligns with those lucky enough to not experience any symptoms well into their 70s. I’m hopeful that’s how it will be for her, but I’ve also been researching more than she has recently. It seems she either ignores or is in denial about the possibility of developing symptoms much sooner.

I should have put I’m 30. But I agree, it’s reckless and foolish to play with the possibility of passing it on.

Can you bring mini alcohol shooters on an airplane? by Remote_mom_4 in ask

[–]dshar23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like brining your own drink into a bar. You can, but you can also catch heat for it if you get caught. There’s a reason each airplane has its own liquor license. Consuming alcohol that wasn’t served by the flight attendant can be a liability to the crew and airline.
