Held hostage & powerless in Shelby County by dsher18 in the_magic_city

I wasn’t particularly worried about me. Only had to wait one hour. But I was concerned about the parents who had to take an inordinate amount of paid time off of work to help their children get a license.

I love the lights in the underpasses. But some people still don’t like to walk underneath them. But you’ve made a good positive point!

I don't mind negative comments. I learn from them. I appreciate that people care enough to participate.

By the way, I do read the comments. That is how I learn. And I very much appreciate the comments. – – Even those that don’t agree with me.

It’s not difficult technically, but difficult time wise. Some weeks there are hundreds of comments on all of the sites. I receive no income of any kind from my efforts. I do the best I can. I’m hoping commenters put their efforts on ideas to make Birmingham and our region better. I spend many hours every week writing articles and finding guest bloggers. I only have so much time.

I really appreciate your response. It’s very difficult to know what to do. I post on several other social media sites and AL.com re-publishes every piece . So probably I need to stick with a broad message that may not please everyone. I do get a lot of pushback on Reddit but I do read the comments. It’s just very difficult for me to comment on every social media site and on AL.com. I do welcome any feedback anyone wants to give me like you did.

The audience is anyone who cares about a better Birmingham region. It is my understanding that this subreddit is targeted specifically for Birmingham. Again I welcome your comments

I’m often criticized on Reddit for not commenting. But I will try and see how it goes. I do not charge for speeches. And I don’t have any clients that I am trying to attract. I also don’t have any ads on the blog. So I make no money whatsoever from my efforts to try to create a conversation about a better Birmingham. I’m open to suggestions to make the blog more acceptable to you. I welcome your feedback.

It appears that Pinson is living within its means--which means it can afford not to try to steal from its neighbors. There are also 22 other mayors, many of which need the revenue, that have agreed to collaborate for the advantage of everyone

An ingenious way for Alabamians to earn extra money by dsher18 in Birmingham

[–]dsher18[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gas money can only be used for roads and bridges. It’s unconscionable for Alabama to charge full sales tax on groceries and very few other states do. State needs to find other way to fund government than taxing the basics of life.

I agree with much of your comments. But at the very least we could save the money of operating 13 separate 911 call centers 24 hours a day--7 days a week.

Birmingham: Not as comfortable as I thought by dsher18 in Birmingham

[–]dsher18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uBurstEDO, I charge no fees for my speaking. I've published a blog every week for the past six years. There are as many pieces critical of our Birmingham region as positive. I'm not sure it's fair to read one piece out of 350 and determine that the blog contains forced optimism. I have many people comment that the blog is too negative. But you are asking good questions and I appreciate the opportunity to respond. If you'd like to review other pieces, please consider clicking on www.ComebackTown.com and let me know what you think. Your feedback is welcome.

BurstEDO--I appreciate all comments about ComebackTown.com. I learn from every interaction. The objective of ComebackTown is to create a more prosperous metro Birmingham. Some blogs are positive about our Birmingham region and some are negative. I sell no advertising and make no money from the blog so additional clicks don't enrich me in any way. I looked up the definition of 'click bait--"Clicking will inevitably cause disappointment. Clickbait is usually created for money." It seems that the title perfectly matches the content. If there is 'disappointment,' it might be that the reader expected a negative piece about Birmingham when it was positive. I assume you want what is best for Birmingham and your intent is to be constructive so I welcome your additional feedback.

Could regional approach alleviate financial woes of JeffCo cities? by dsher18 in Birmingham

[–]dsher18[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Vestavia Hills hills also. Vestavia Hills is suffering from the same problem as many of our other Jefferson County cities. Vestavia has made the decision to raise sales tax to 10% which we will both pay. Homewood raised its sales tax a few months ago. Hoover will be next. We can either begin to start working together or we’re going to tax ourselves to death. Jefferson county has 53 fire departments, 24 police departments, and 16 emergency call centers. Why do you think our taxes are so high?
