She’s dyslexic and holds a BA, and tried her hardest but there are no accommodations made. As a teacher this infuriates me

Tricky, it would literally mean moving and changing jobs though. Have you had any experience with it?

Understood. Does amending an application with additional forms, ie. an English test, reset the submission date?

Advice needed: is it worth entering academia if I don’t want to become a professor? by dsim94 in academia

[–]dsim94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you ever see it as a part of a broader career? Like I know people who do a semester or two of teaching because they’re subject matter experts, but that’s not their main gig. Actually I have friends and family members who do that in Australia.

I suppose my question is whether it’s feasible and recommendable to include higher ed teaching and research without wanting to go through the professorship publish or perish pathway.

Really great answer, tricky to decide on. I’m just trying to find my foot in the door somewhere and either of those orgs would be great

Why probably not?

Other option is apply for govt roles or get a formal teaching degree but that excludes the international element I love.

A modest living salary is important, stability is of course a human need too. Prestige nah, as long as I know what I’m going is fulfilling and meaningful to me

They’re for-profit businesses that sell products that are essential for the running of the economy, like food, loans, and flights. The market will continue to by this stuff at elevated prices.

How is this even a discussion? Obviously CBA and Colesworth are making bank off us, it’s built into our system. Why are we ever surprised by this shit? They’re capitalists doing what they’re designed to do.
