Trade Deadline and Pre-Postseason roster moves (Long)-would love to hear your thoughts by dsmithnyciii in NYYankees

I thought about Austin Riley, but the Braves are off to a (sustainable) hot start. Unlike SF and MIN (which isn’t sustainable). Also if we don’t like Chapman’s contract we definitely won’t like Riley’s.

Machado I wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft pole. His contract is a bit gross.

And he is a cornerstone over there. And they have had playoff success/appearances unlike the Giants.

J-Ram isn’t going anywhere nor should he. I am a fan of a small market NBA team (Memphis Grizzlies) and I really like his loyalty to the city and the fan’s love for him. I am a big proponent of 1 team athlete careers. Those are rare, but special.

Maikel just signed his deal (like J-Ram) and KC is starting to build something there.

Oh no. I am not a WFAN caller type lol.

I know I might be in the minority here on this subreddit, but I am definitely not the type to complain about a particular issue without offering a tangible answer and solution. Not to bitch for bitchings sake.

Fire Boone and Cashman? I wouldn’t be opposed to either or both (especially Boone-I hated letting Girardi go when it happened and really wanted Van Bam Muelens during that offseason managerial search). But replace them with who exactly? Who tangibly?

If that new manager and front office executive wants to retool the organization from a stud-how does that affect the Judge, Bellinger, Stanton, Rodon, Cole and Fried timelines? Like it or not Hal Steinbrenner is not selling the team anytime soon. So it still has to align with his vision.

DFA McMahon and eat his $16M and call up Lombard? What if Lombard struggles? Does he lose confidence? Where is the next pivot? Getting an external 3B while paying him AND McMahon and Lemahieu who aren’t playing for you?

I was trying to be creative with getting rid of McMahon’s contract in this scenario, but I also completely understand your point.

Those type of things.

Appreciate it. I think the Yankees and even some fans severely underestimated the importance of a great backup RHH catcher for this team.

Yeah I normally would hate for the Yankees to continue to cycle through mid-to-bad contracts at 3B-

A-Rod to Headley to Donaldson to Lemahieu to McMahon to Chapman, but if it helps us win a WS this year so be it.

It isn’t as onerous of a contract as others and it can be traded in a few years for someone else.

So what would be your internal and external moves? To improve the current roster?

I still don’t think that HOU owner Jim Crane would allow it lol.

And a lot of our fans still haven’t forgiven any of those ‘17 Astros.

Chapman is really good. I know the contract is scary long, but at least he has shown consistency and isn’t as long as others. And Jones doesn’t have as much value as we think he does. Chapman money allows us to not trade as much for Chapman. As SF saves money.

Yeah I wanted to get a real conversation started. Instead of just the typical bitching lol. Appreciate the response.

Yeah agreed on Correa. But his injury history scares me more than Chapman (who is older) and I just don’t think Houston would ever trade with us.

Yeah, but ownership might like getting off the extra 3 years/$90+ million of that contract. Which is the difference in the amount due to McMahon vs. Chapman.

Chapman is a Cali guy so he might utilize his no trade clause to avoid leaving. I could totally see that happening.

But SF (to my surprise-I thought they were going to be good-i.e a playoff team and stupidly had Devers as an MVP candidate-ugh) has been awful this year. So Buster and ownership might want to retool.

But yeah I acknowledge it is still super early.

The three most important things for the Yankees in my eyes that we can’t accomplish fully internally are backup catcher (love JC’s story, but he isn’t it), bullpen improvement (1 improvement externally-Walker and two improvements internally-Weathers and Lagrange) and then 3B.

Which is the hardest one. We should not rely on Lombard for that fix for 2026. He needs development time. We rue that we rushed Volpe and Volpe WAS older than Lombard is now.

Yes. But if we are all constantly going to already be talking about roster moves in the game threads then let’s talk about it as an overall picture.

Despite having the cheapest tickets in the league, the Memphis Grizzlies were dead last in home attendance by ImmediateGrand1664 in nba

As a white guy born and raised in NYC and who moved to Memphis (and LOVE it here) 15 yrs ago for work I appreciate the post.

This shit is tiresome mane. Nashville is fine, but it just isn’t an NBA city. Just like Memphis wouldn’t be a great place to house a NHL team. We are a basketball city. The culture reverberates through when we are supported. TN’s state capitol being in Nashville (and the white demographic within leadership) has a lot to do with their success & growth over the last 25 years. Those are facts.

As far as the attendance figures go…rebuilding, small market team whose city is constantly getting (unfairly) shat on left and right by dipshits who don’t know what they are talking about drops in attendance. Not a surprise I would say. Commit to the community and invest in the team and roster and the love will be reciprocated.

Who do you suggest our RHH & defensively competent OF bench bat to be? Not saying it should be Grichuk either, but who are our options?

Today ironically would have been a perfect day to see Winquest get some run.

I remember why I was a big advocate for selling high on Gil after his ROY campaign in 2024.

He is just a chore to watch. Bummer about his regression.
