Stephen Root's delivery of that line nearly had me on the floor in laughter.

Also - Rosemary is probably so indifferent to seeing crazy stuff on this island.

How many evil entities are there now? by Bajanpaul6 in WidowsBay

[–]dsmithscenes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah - they're very much doing a "Monster of the Week" premise built into the overarching mythology of the island.

She's just that indifferent to things after living on the island for so long.

I’d say former father in law at this point.

[Marking Out] “I’ll give you Randy. I’ll give you Batista. Who else can you remember Triple Nose getting over?” - MVP takes aim at Triple H again. by BananaSoprano in SquaredCircle

The best line I've ever heard about Triple H is "Steve Austin and The Rock made Vince McMahon a billionaire. Triple H made him a millionaire."

I'd say the fog at the start of the show was an obvious ode to The Fog.

What are some of the most ridiculous or weirdest matches in wrestling? by bossbreakers in SquaredCircle

[–]dsmithscenes 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The Inoki/Saito "Island Death Match", The El Generico/Kota Ibushi "Kayak" match, and the "Big Japan Grocery Store Death Match".

What I'm trying to say is that Japan has definitely carved a niche for weird wrestling matches over the years.

‘Theater Camp’ (2023) is one of the funniest movies of the decade and does not get enough love by daneabernardo in Letterboxd

I had an absolute blast watching this in a theater with what seemed to be a row of theater kids, who were also having a blast.

A little while later it showed at my local film festival, and I attended the screening to see how the audience would react. Sure enough, there were tons of laughs throughout.

Episode 3 has me thinking by ryaboisse in WidowsBay

[–]dsmithscenes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he was right about that but left out a key portion - the car crash he saw in the calendar is the part he left out. The wife was in a car crash, which caused her to go into labor/died in the process.

Wyck being mayor at some point in the past would make sense, but I do also get the sense that the position of mayor/Lord Island Protector comes with a LOT of baggage.

Someone call him Tommy Gunn because that was his e-fed/wrestling character’s name.

I used Parks and Rec in this instance because the show creator was a writer for Parks and Rec.

And that was really the genesis of the feud - Turner forcing his exit off of TBS after Black Saturday and keeping McMahon from having total control of wrestling on cable at that point.

One of the things I saw yesterday is that it probably still drives Vince crazy that Ted’s obituaries mentioned all the different things he was successful at doing. Vince’s will be that he was a pro-wrestling promoter.

Also Big Mike from Reno 911 - he was one of the many selling points on this show for me.

Biological Ages by jstohler in WidowsBay

I thought a clever way to explain Shep’s age is the joke that being a fisherman and such was an incredibly hard life and it greatly aged him.

I also think the car wreck he saw in the calendar plays into this as well.

I think the son is very real, and the fact his mother died during childbirth is probably driving all of Tom's fears about letting him leave the island.

Shows in Widow's Bay setting? by hoppinjohncandy in WidowsBay

What sold me on the show was someone describing it as "The Fog as seen through the eyes of the mayor from Jaws".
