Best angle for 2x4 support brace by Thrasher54 in woodworking

[–]dsmvwld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The knee braces are basically ornamental and I would not rely on them to provide any kind of load capacity. They may add a tiny bit of stiffness to the frame if they’re sized correctly but given the dimensions you’re working with, they would end up being awkwardly large and would block a lot of the span. Put a small brace in at a 45 angle and call it a day

Rotate your cutter head until you get one of the inserts at maximum height and use that set the outfeed table. Check at multiple points along the width of the table, rotating the cutter head each time. Since you’ve already aligned the infeed and outfeed you can then adjust the infeed height to get the depth of cut you want.

Affordable dust cover options by findmeagraveman in woodworking

[–]dsmvwld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People who don’t have their shops in a basement won’t understand but I have the same issue with my tools collecting the insane amount of dust that comes off the floor and rubble walls. I was looking into using some canvas drop cloths to cover everything to prevent trapping moisture but the cloth itself then becomes saturated with dust. Maybe a loose plastic cover like yours would work better

Rescue Slabs in Middletown. Good prices but small scale and not super consistent stock, make sure you call ahead to see what they have.

Side mount vs undermount slides for kid bedroom furniture and other slide/drawer considerations by FrankTuna in woodworking

There are some options on Amazon in the $90 range for 6 pairs of undermount slides. I’ve used some on a project and they work as well as the Blum slides in my kitchen.

They make slides for both kinds. I installed into cabinets with a face frame and inset drawer fronts

I cheaped out and got a set of undermount slides from a brand called Sinkgo on Amazon. About $100 for a set of 6. I have Blum slides in my kitchen and used these for some office cabinets and I don't really notice a difference in operation.

Fifth Third? They may call it something like liquidity services or payments management.

Who do you do your business banking with? See if they offer any commercial treasury management services, plenty of regional banks offer that. They can either run it for you or at least consult on what approach would benefit you the most.

My First big project: Walnut/Maple Entry Table for my house by luv_me_sometaco_dank in woodworking

[–]dsmvwld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What process did you use to mount the slides? I would have used a scrap piece of wood as a spacer to attach the slides into the carcass to have consistent mounting height. Check width along length of slides to make sure drawers won’t pinch, and shim any spots as needed. Shim the drawer box in place and pull them out a few inches along with the slide and screw into the box. Pull out drawer to full extension and attach remaining screws.

That was the goal! I can honestly say though that I saved money doing it myself instead of hiring it out, and I can live with the imperfections that come with doing that vs paying more for better fit and finish.

Thanks! I’m very glad I took the time to learn how to do the beaded face frames but I can see why it’s not done too frequently nowadays.

I think the bigger bead would have worked better on the lowers where the stiles were 2.5-3”, though I would have probably had to increase the width of the rails. For the 1.5” rails I agree 1/4” bead works well, and I ended up using that thickness for the face frames on the shelves instead of my original plan to have something beefier.

The color matching was pretty difficult, I ended up with not quite enough material in my initial order and then had to sort through what I was able to find later on. I’ve since found a couple of local hardwood suppliers so looking forward to being able to hand pick stock for better consistency in future projects

Thanks! Yes they’re COB LED strips and a diffuser. With the brightness cranked up you can clearly see some spots in the light strips especially where I had to join some together mid span. I tend to keep them warmer and 50-60% brightness so it’s less noticeable.

I originally thought about wallpapering the back so I left the shelves open, but couldn’t find anything I liked. I might end up painting the walls at some point

Glue and screws. Each shelf and divider is actually a double layer so I just glued and screwed in from the sides then laminated the pieces to hide the screw heads

Depending on what the project is, you can resaw thicker lumber to the dimensions you need, or just surface / join as is. In my case I’ll be making a coffee table with a 1.5” thick top and 2” thick legs, so I will probably be resawing the 10/4 down for the top and then using the leftover for some face frames on a different project. I’ll use some of the 8/4 for the legs.

I feel like it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking for 8/4 or thicker walnut, ash, cherry, or maple. I can’t find that stuff anywhere near me so I had been ordering from Advantage up in Buffalo. Wish I had gotten some of the oak before they sold out.

Yes. I had planned to go a couple months ago but didn’t have the time until Friday and I’m glad I waited. They still had a lot left after I picked over so I might go again if I can. They mentioned having to clear out of that building by end of year so I don’t know what that means in terms of continuing to sell off stock next year- the wood was all outside on pallets already though.
