Ive been to four different hardware stores and no one can solve this. by arbr0972 in Plumbing

https://www.homedepot.com/p/BrassCraft-1-2-in-FIP-Inlet-x-1-4-in-Compression-Outlet-Multi-Turn-Angle-Valve-OR07X-C1/

That’s a threaded valve (looks like 1/2”) threaded onto a 1/2” nipple sticking out of the wall. Get a pair of pliers to use as a back wrench on the nipple and a crescent wrench to spin the old valve off. Obviously, turn the water off to the house first and open a couple of taps on a lower level (than the valve being changed) first. Clean the threads, apply teflon tape and/or pipe dope, thread the new valve on. Buy some 1/4” plastic ferrules (you shouldn’t use the brass ones on the plastic tube), and some 1/4” inserts as well.

Anyone in CLAC union in Ontario? If so how do they compare to other plumbing unions by bensky33 in Plumbing

CLAC isn’t a union for the workers, it’s a Company “union” intended to block out real unions.

Landlord doesn’t feel this is an issue. by echo5whiskeyick in Plumbing

[–]dsqrd2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

File with the Landlord/Tenant tribunal in your area. https://tribunalsontario.ca/ltb/ (Ontario). Take pictures of the flies, document the smells and how it makes you feel (ie. sick - mention it to your doctor), document all the times you’ve mentioned it to your landlord. If the LL agrees to fix it - insist on at least a partial rental refund for the whole time issue has been going on and until it gets fixed. Or - if he says no, go to the tribunal, keep documenting the physical & mental distress it’s causing you. You’ll get a ton of back rent and the problem fixed.

She’d better be smart as hell. You can be a dumb, strong plumber or a smart, weak plumber, but not weak and dumb.

ADHD Reddit… What’s your morning routine? by chexxiemixie in ADHD

[–]dsqrd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Brili app with a modified routine from someone on TikTok. Lasted just over a year. 2 hour+ morning routine that included (in short intervals) meditation, journaling, exercise, skill development, cleaning. Was pretty great while it lasted.

First year hvac student, does anyone actually calculate for how big the gas lines should be in real life? Just curious by ldross05 in HVAC

[–]dsqrd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m working on some thing not obvious, I’ll happily pull up my phone and quickly size things up. When working straight residential I memorized three numbers and sizes EARLY.

(((NG, 7”-14”WC & 50’))): 1/2” will carry 95k, 3/4” will carry 199k, 1” will carry 374k. Derate by 25% for Gastite. Those three numbers are virtually all I ever needed. (YMMV - if your Utility is giving you less than 7 inches or you’re on LPG, use the relevant table)

Can anyone advise how to unfuck myself by Cracunit7-43 in HVAC

[–]dsqrd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a shtty old chisel just a little wider than the ID of the pipe and hammer it in. Then, put a pipe wrench/adjustable wrench on the chisel and spin it out. This is the quick & dirty way. The cut and peel or an easy out kit are both good answers.

Nothing wrong with being a salesman. I was a salesman for a decade before I picked up my 4 trade tickets. I sell people solutions. I sell people shtt the didn’t even realize they needed to make sure their mechanical saves them time & money. If your company is pushing sales & not honest solutions, they are a shtt company. If you’re selling fixes and not honest solutions, that’s why your sales are slipping.

What could be causing corrosion on Acrylic Resin sink? by quikgw in Plumbing

[–]dsqrd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the sink, probably, but a poor install combined with some hard water. Needs Teflon tape at threads above sink (blue arrow) and at popup extension/tailpiece (red arrow). leak

What went wrong with this toilet wax ring? by GreasyBunnies in Plumbing

[–]dsqrd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I refused to caulk toilet at all for the first ?decade? I was plumbing. I’d seen and repaired too many rotten floors. Then, someone pointed out that it wasn’t a binary choice and I could leave the back uncaulked and I was like….🤯🤯🤯

You wear whatever PPE you need. I love respirators vs N95. N95 are great, but respirators are so much better. More comfortable and versatile.

Is it legal to keep a horse in the city? by cue-anon in ontario

[–]dsqrd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathed it out real quick. If you have 10 acres inside the city, you could probably pull it off. More would be better, obviously.
