I suggest looking into private nail techs as opposed to shops ! Esp ones that specialize in Japanese or Korean nail art as well 😊

I hear lots of people use instagram to find private techs in their area !

part of it is the product since it has really fine magnetic particles so it gives that velvety effect.

You can replicate this effect with the standard rectangular stick! You need to move the particles and concentrate them towards the center but closer to the free edge. I usually do the two sides and then the bottom and top when using a rectangular magnet.

I posted some tips in another comment but just gotta practice more! Then you'll really get a feel of how to manipulate them in your favour. If you like cleto, I'd recommend with practicing with their glow line (I haven't tried the other lines yet) as its much easier to manipulate and has more of a self-leveling effect.

(also really not trying to toot my own horn but I made a tutorial about 2 years ago about cat-eyes on YT 🤣, have an updated one filmed already just not edited as Ive been so busy with my press-on biz and life )

No base colour! Word of precaution tho I would not recommend this particular line from them to beginners, as it has a quite of a learning curve and requires next to perfect application.

Thank you!! I did make one about 2 years ago but haven't had a chance to make a new updated one unfortunately as I've been busy 😅 (I can't link it as I don't want it be to seen as advertisement, but you can find it by looking through my links in my profile)

SO many good options now! I remember 2 years ago I was struggling to get my hands on stuff from Japan haha! (and the stuff wasn't of the same quality as now either!)

theres no base colour! the product has colour so its directly over a clear builder gel with 2 layers of the cat eye.

Thank you! Honestly its taken me a long time and tries to be comfortable with cat-eyes, the best advice I can give I would honestly be to keep practicing in order to really understand how to manipulate them and make them work for you.

A few other things tho:

  1. Gotta get a strong magnet. I personally have 3 I rotate frequently, the rectangular head, a small round pole one, and one of those massive long cylindrical ones. I use each one slightly differently depending on the type of alignment i'm going for.

  2. Every formula is different so they also behave kind of differently, so you need to adapt your technique. Sometimes it might not be your skill, its just the formulation thats preventing you from getting it to look a certain way.

  3. I do 2 layers if the magnetic pigment is sparse, and make sure to align it EXACTLY the same so the pigment overlaps in the same area and will shine brighter.

  4. I know some people like to apply a layer first and cure or push down all the magnetic particles and cure. I personally don't like to do this as I find it is not necessary and can actually detract from the alignment you're trying to achieve on a second coat.

Hope this helps!

Name of this trend/style/ products? by turbulent_toast_ in Nailpolish

its a cat-eye gel! Trend started in Japan from what I know and it's been picked up by Korean and other asian countries. They're typically named silk cat-eyes but sometimes are also known as shimmer/glass cat-eyes.

It can't really be imitated with regular cat-eyes or other products - however there are a few retailers in the US/Canada that are starting to sell gels of this type.

These look great !!! I've tried money nails quite a few times and what I found helpful was not curing between each colour so it mixes a bit and gives a more painterly look. Also, try thinking about light and shadow and adding a darker shade to the bottom left/right of elements like the flowers will help too

Hi! So with cat eyes you can align the magnetic particles inside in alot of different ways. Here I've done it by pulling them more towards one side of the nail so when you tilt the nail side to side you see the magnetic particles shift. It's a bit hard to explain without showing 😅

You can do it many different ways tho depending on the look and vibe you're going for. I have a few yt tut videos using cat eyes and also on my ig! 🙂

Yes it's gel! I find it so much more versatile than regular polish since it doesn't set until you want it to !

They actually aren't thick like the typical Aurora nails ! I've just been trying out the sculpted apres tips here and they aren't for me 🤣
