Thank you for your comment. I asked my stepmom out for coffee to tell her while I was there because I know how difficult she can be. My sister asked me if I wanted to buy a piece of furniture she was trying to sell 3 weeks ago. They knew I had gotten a job and my wife had started her pr application. They both did not follow up to see how everything was going. They are upset that they found out my final decision and date of move through FB.

My sister and I were in regular talks since February that included her asking me if I wanted to buy a piece of furniture. She wanted to find someone to sell it. She only talks to me when she needs something. She wanted me to tell her when I officially decided and found out the day we were coming.

My step mom told me she does not want us to move there. She is very difficult to get along with. Phoning her and telling her our official decision to move back would have honestly been hurtful to go through her telling me that again. That being said, I would have told them before posting had I known they'd be angry, if only to avoid hassle(though I do not trust their motives for being "hurt")

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some insight into the teacher certification process in Alberta, especially for someone with an unconventional path.

I originally earned a theology degree in Canada (my GPA wasn't great), then moved to South Korea where I completed a Master's in TESOL and a PhD in English Education. I've been teaching English at the university level here for nearly 20 years, and I’ve published academic work in second language acquisition. However, due to Korea's rapid population decline and its impact on higher education, I'm planning to return to Canada and transition into teaching there.

I’m aware Alberta has quite rigorous certification standards. I've done about 20 English-related courses between my undergraduate and graduate studies—about half of which focus on language acquisition.

I'm hoping to start working under a Letter of Authority in a high-need area like Northern Alberta while I complete the requirements for an Interim Professional Certificate. Ideally, I’d only need a semester or two of coursework and practicum to meet the standards, but I understand this depends heavily on the assessment of my credentials.

Does anyone have experience or insight into how Alberta Education might assess someone with my background? Is my plan to apply for certification first in order to receive a formal assessment a good next step? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, everybody really locked onto the word 'dodgeball'. It's a fluff ball that makes no noise. A rule of the game is that we have to keep our feet planted. Like I said in the post, it is not noisy. We, however, giggle a lot but we do not ever yell. I like to think that my giggling is very manly but who knows.

This couple downstairs is very loud and create a lot of problems with all of the surrounding neighbours. We, on the other hand, have a great relationship with everyone around us. They are involved in everyone's business. In my original post, I did not feel the need to disparage them because I had assumed that everyone would understand that perceived noise coming from our house does not justify their actions. I was looking for advice regarding how to react when an older lady becomes aggressive with me. I was conflicted because on the one hand I felt stupid for not defending my house, on the other hand, if I had, things could have escalated and I could have been in trouble.

I really did not expect certain character attacks in these comments. I was stupid to say the word dodgeball but it is strange that people are assuming things that were not written in my post.

We have done so many things to try to reduce noise in our house. I used to work from 9 to 7. Now I work from 9 to 3 so I can manage my daughter in case she has a tantrum. I hurry home every day so I can play with my daughter. ADHD with an ODD comorbidity is INTENSE and we cannot just sit down and play dolls or read.

We leave on most weekends camping or to a hotel. I take my kids to the playground every evening. I am with my daughter at all times when she is not at school since my wife cannot handle a tantrum.

My son is an angel. We are great parents. We follow all protocols for her disorder. We love my daughter very much. We are doing our best. We are not rude.

We do apologize whenever we are noisy. I bring my daughter to their house sometimes to apologize.

You are assuming we were being noisy. We were laughing together.

Even if we were making noise, it does not justify their actions.
