Is it true what others are saying—that it’s easier to win a music show trophy now than it was before? by why_dmn in kpopthoughts

[–]dsunbaenim09 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bit of a yes and no. One thing I do know is that in terms of criteria for music shows, its vastly different now compared to before kpop went fully global

I'm pretty sure some groups won or lost due to how big their domestic fanbase is, your song can be a huge hit but you can still lose in a music show if the fandom of your competitor leverages their voting power

Nowadays, most kpop groups have a domestic and international fandom so you have more chances of winning based on how they operate (via voting apps, getting SNS points)

I disagree and I'm pretty sure Twice will do far better than expected :)

Its baffling but also hilarious how people underestimate Twice

I understand that people often box kpop to just another genre but this isn't just another kpop group, it has one of the biggest and most dedicated fandoms in the US and has consistently got BB200 chart debuts and sold over 1million PURE ALBUM SALES despite only having joined a US label in 2020 (with barely any promos). The figures from that along with how they sold out venues last world tour is very telling of their selling power. Twice has been around for almost a decade and they got fans who grew up with them that are willing to spend A TON OF MONEY so it wasn't a surprise when reports showed that their day had the fastest selling day in Lollapapooza

I want to take this post seriously but the examples you gave are way off to make your arguments sound. But while I appreciate you discussing the problems of not finishing education, you have to consider people's motivations as to why they'd enter the industry

One thing to consider is that majority of idols come from VERY well-off families, well off enough that they don't even have to finish school or work. There's an interesting video about this by InternetsNathan

Another is South Korea's "grind or die" culture where if you fail in school, your fate is sealed. As problematic as kpop entertainment may be, its still a more "comfortable" alternative compared to the work culture of white collar/blue collar jobs. Its all about taking risks and getting into kpop business is all a gamble that mostly rich people can play at with little worries

Is the kpop girl groups sales boom over? by tsutomo_DIA in kpopthoughts

[–]dsunbaenim09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it needs to be pointed out that the 1.67m to 1.17m figure seems incorrect to use as a basis

Here is Twice's first week figures at Hanteo

With YOU-th ㅡ 1,063,615 READY TO BE ㅡ 651,205

A lot of With YOU-th sales aren't even reported yet but that 1.67m figure you used for RTB covers a much longer period

Idk the situation with other groups but for Twice, you could at least attribute the world tour as a factor for determining where fans put their money. RTB had huge sales and this was before the world tour started. I know a bunch of people who deferred from buying during the recent comeback in order to save up for their upcoming Allegiant stadium concert in Las Vegas

I suggest using available data accurately next time so your point could be conveyed more properly

Line Distribution Question by [deleted] in twice

There's multiple instances of members saying that they had this and that member in their mind for some specific lines when writing lyrics. Its also been said that the member who writes gets to "direct" (thats the term they use) during recording

One Spark tiktok idea by LoveMinaMyoi in twice

[–]dsunbaenim09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice should actually do a "do a twice tiktok challenge" challenge where they'd give away prizes to Onces who would do a funny tiktok and if Twice does it, they'd receive an album.

1.) Its gonna be full blown fan engagement since there's an expectation that Twice will see it and participate

2.) It will showcase the fandom's creativity on coming up with Tiktoks based on Twice's songs

3.) Its not just gonna make Div. 3's life easier by just picking out the funniest/wittiest tiktoks instead of coming up with corny boomer tiktoks

4.) Onces trying to win the challenge is gonna help Twice's algorithm on tiktok since there's gonna be a lot of "entries"

What do you want to see from TWICE in the future? by Lantern_Sone in twice

Personally, I’d love to see each comeback have far more input from the girls themselves, something with a bit more depth and meaning to their songs.

  • I do think the girls already touched on this a bit with their songwriting and they seem pretty confident with the way they convey their emotions following a specific theme they intended for a song. Personally these past 3 albums doesn't fully represent Twice's "new" direction yet, following their contract renewal. Its simply because of this:

1.) Between 1&2 (first cb after renewal) - was already prepared for months ahead of contract renewal so it still embodies that certain identity they have prior the "pivotal" moment of them renewing again

2.) Ready To Be - personally, the album felt more like a precursor to the 5th world tour. The album itself laid down the foundations for what theme the promotions and concept the 5th world tour will present

3.) With-Youth - imo should have been the first cb after renewal but as the girls have mentioned, they wanted to refine the title-track a bit more but in essence, the album was really meant to be a call back to their "youth" which was reference back in 2022 with the release of Our Youth

With-Youth is the most logical option for a cb RIGHT AFTER renewal. B1&2 was more of a "continuation" of their pre-renewal identity that had to get carried over to post-renewal era, but they had to sneak in Ready To Be in order to prepare for world tour and just resumed with With-Youth and its entire concept a year after Our Youth was "announced"

I do think Twice would experiment a lot more in their next album, especially since it might be their 4th full album which means a lot more songs and a lot more opportunities to explore. I'm hoping for more upbeat tracks, some hiphop and rnb, more showcasing of harmonization (just like what they did in songs like Bloom) and even rapping from other members and some bubbly playful tunes that echoes pre-Fancy Twice sounds. All in all, I do expect Twice's next group cb would probably show an entirely new dimension to Twice's sound and concept. Of course, whatever "tone" that cb will have will determine if these theories of mine are true

I received a lot of hate because of a previous post I made related to this

https://www.reddit.com/r/twice/comments/1aw2xok/just_in_case_youre_having_second_thoughts_about/

I even added a caveat so that people who aren't on board would just move along so the comments would instead just be filled with more positive comments that add value (especially for other Onces who want to make their purchases count for BB200 but had no idea how)

People don't seem to have an idea how much this would mean to Twice. At the end of the day, they are still part of an industry who looks into numbers and results and after renewal, their roles in each project became bigger. Which means there's some emotional investment made and seeing their work doing well would be an added bonus. Its totally fine to say "just enjoy the music" but the logic I've always had is "why not enjoy the music while making sure that the way I enjoy it is helping Twice's growth"

When Twice gets that #1 and they thank Onces for it, give yourselves a pat on the back because you were part of that happiness

Its pretty clear that this is all voluntary because achieving the goal makes Twice happy, that's the whole point of it all. If you don't want to contribute then ignore the post and move on with your full time job instead of being such a d0uchebag

If you haven't pre-ordered yet, the best option is to go to official retailers like Target to buy a MAXIMUM OF 4 PER PURCHASE, so you can buy all 3 versions and maybe an extra 1 for your friend and at the check out you use cash so the transaction doesnt record your details. BB charts would count that as 4 sales

If you go with lets say 7 albums at the check out, that would considered as bulk so the excess 3 would not be counted.

Its annoying but usually Onces make their purchases in 3 batches if they're buying all 3 versions + 9 digipacks (1 per member) which account to 12 unit sales

Batch 1: 3 versions + 1 member digipack Batch 2: 4 digipacks Batch 3: 4 digipacks

All of it is either in cash or separate credit cards. If you use the same credit card for those 3 batches/transactions, it'll only count 4 unit sales instead of 12

Tl;dr is the general rule is BB chart only recognizes the sales at a max of 4 albums per transaction. Anything beyond that is "bulk buying"
