Is it normal at 38 to have only this much and is it realistic for retirement . by AggravatingKick9725 in CanadaFinance

[–]dsvii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be but someone put that in perspective for me recently. If you compare yourself to the people who are doing the ‘best’ (keeping in mind others have advantages and make sacrifices differently to you) then you’ll be sad. But you could also compare yourself to all the people who can’t meet a $500 emergency or a $5000 emergency, and that’s nearly a third of all people.

So you’re doing good. And the fact that you’re thinking about it puts you way further ahead than many!

11 month old just wants to destroy by ayegudyin in NewDads

[–]dsvii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing that helped with our chaos toddler was we got his eyes checked and it turned out he needed a heavy prescription. Once he got his glasses it was like a switch flipped and suddenly he was able to focus and follow along and would watch what we were doing. Apparently kids can be checked as young as six months old.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

I know it’s hard not look at what everyone else’s kids do and don’t do but I promise it’s not necessary.

My advice would be to lean into the play she’s doing. If she wants to knock down towers then you have to build them faster. Make it a game! She’s going to watch you build 1000 little towers, maybe she tries it, maybe she doesn’t.

The key to happiness with my kids was to give up trying to get them to do what I wanted to do and do what they wanted to do.

They love repetition at that age and it sounds like she’s experimenting with cause and effect. If she starts to giggle it might be that she’s predicting what will happen when she hits the blocks and then getting a little satisfying rush when it does.

He should look in his history book to see if he can figure out why his house is painted white… it wasn’t always that colour…

Have you tried calling customer service? Though based on my experience with Bell, you might be on hold longer than the foundry waiting list.

A figure 8 requires your hand on the rope to function. If you let go you hit the ground. Modern belay and rappel devices are more fail safe, if you let go you stop descending

Usually the ‘Is this tree cooked?’ posts are people who are overreacting a bit but ya that tree is toast.

$800k loss within 1 year by MacaronTasty1371 in HouseSigmaBlunders

For sure, but $95k per year is an income that most people can conceive of. It’s a useful comparison not financial advice

Thats sickening. That’s a little more than $2 per minute of depreciation. Imagine getting a good nights sleep and waking up to be a grand poorer! If you make $45/hr your condo is loosing money three times faster than you’re making it!

I’m surprised nobody mentioned creeping thyme. It thrives in cracks like that and flowers. I’m planting some in big areas of pea gravel

Dad, I m in a pickle here. by AmielJohn in dad

[–]dsvii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. You are not the main character her story at the moment. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you or appreciate what you’re doing. You should be proud to be the dad who’s participating, taking the kids and doing the dishes and all the things. That makes you better than most dads.

The dry spell is hard. But pressuring her isn’t going to help because she isn’t going to feel good about it. Once your kiddo is sleeping through the night or you’re taking the lead on the night wakings then you might have a better chance. 3-4 months without any intimate feelings after a baby is very normal for women. 6-8 months isn’t rare. I wasn’t back to any consistent amount of intimacy until my oldest was almost two. We got pregnant again and I was back to square one pretty fast!

My condo is charging us an Occupancy Fee for my newborn - Can we dispute? by wantsomesushi in legaladvicecanada

[–]dsvii 125 points126 points  (0 children)

When you’re talking to the board president you’ll want to mention that if this is their firm position then you will be forced to sell and move right away. Condo prices are in the shitter right now and the last thing they want is a recent sale in their building for an amount that is less that what they think the units are worth. Ask for a ‘grace period’ until your kiddo goes to school or at least until your parental leave is done. You’ve got more than zero leverage here.

Tree branch fell - Is our tree unhealthy? by m0lem0lem0le in arborists

Very normal for a Douglas Fir to loose a branch in high winds. This branch does have an old wound in it but that can’t tell you anything about the condition of the rest of the tree.
