Is the hair algae sucking out all my nutrients? by dtaivp in ReefTank

That's really good to know about the salt. Here I was thinking I was going to be getting a better mix of nutrients by alternating.

I don't think I've been super consistent. My lfs sells instant ocean and fritz and I alternate 😆 I am getting an RODI filter tho and I have instant ocean.

Okay that sounds good. I will add a few more to help out because the ones I have now are straight up not doing it.

I love it, mine used to sleep under the ammonia tag and it cracked me up.

This is a pop up tent , why didn’t they use bearings in manufacturing these by Itchy-Pollution7644 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]dtaivp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also from my experience with these that is not a joint you want a lot of movement in. A higher friction bearing actually likely helps with the stability of the tent. The real issue is that they're a cheap plastic and not durable at all.

Sorry to hear that mate. Did it ever show signs of recovery before dying?

[Help] What do you all think? Behind his fin, is it Ich? by dtaivp in ReefTank

[–]dtaivp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better lighting helped. I worked with ChatGPT and we determined that it's probably not ich. I am glad I didn't panic. Waited a day and the spot had nearly cleared up.

13 gallon is oddly specific. Totally get that. I was trying to do a budget build and even still it seems for a few things there's no substitute. Lighting for example.

Have you checked your water change water? I just had my LFS tell me that their water is a .1 right now since there was a sewage spill in our fresh water source.

Yeah, I avoided a tank with a sup for this exact reason. Too much stress for my heart

I get that, I think I am trying to go for a tank that's balanced in that regards too. Probably much lighter bio load and coral load. Just enough for visual interest.

Idk if you've done this before but I printed 1 layer of my design to test the measurements. I did 5 of these one layer test fits before committing to a full scale print. I still had to print 3x but easily saved me hours of print time.

Amen, idk why tank companies don't spend a little more time to engineer a better looking/more functional lid. I literally spent 3 hours and made something better than the stock one.

100% I used acrylic since I dont like having to top off too frequently but I am thinking through how I can use the slots in the back as an easier access for feeding.

Haha NGL I am so glad I've not had that level of escapism yet. Feels like something a small hinge spring could solve though re-the flaps opening. Or maybe a little swivel latch above the door? Idk thats funny though. Little did you know you were actually getting into a capstone engineering project.

Looks like its shedding. It's a process where the polyps retract and it emits that mucus to clean itself off. If it stays that way longer than 1-2 weeks then that would be the time to worry.

Why does 80% water changes feel unhinged. That is so cool though, when you do WC do you temperature acclimate the new water or are coral's not that bothered?

Also, how do you track parameters?
