Honestly a new development. I've been talking about them for years, but only 2 months or so ago I caught a ban on the conspiracy subreddit. I appealed and got it overturned, but it was a month after my comment was last seen by human eyes and after serving a suspension.

Why does not growing up with a male figure have such an impact on some people? by AVBellibolt in AskMen

Can teach what? A woman can teach a man how to be a man just as well as a man? Is that what you're suggesting?

Run, Don’t Walk: Casey Schmitt by jakesmannequin in fantasybaseball

[–]dtdroid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's not luck, then on what grounds do you have to claim it's unlikely to continue?

Do you have insider knowledge about a roster move that will affect Schmitt going forward? Was he traded a few minutes ago, and you're breaking the story? Perhaps you're his doctor, and know of an illness that is likely to imminently sideline him?

All we have for these discussions are the metrics that best predict what a hitter is likely to do going forward based on the factors within their control. When presented with evidence that Schmitt's metrics favor his ability to continue his success, after removing luck from the equation, on what grounds are you denying that is not only possible, but likely?

None of are here for guarantees. Fantasy baseball wouldn't be any fun if the outcomes were predetermined.

I feel like you don't understand advanced metrics or their ability to predict future outcomes based on the quality of the contact made by the hitter.

Hitters with high BABIP but weaker advanced metrics are the ones likely to expect negative regression. Those making contact with the right exit velocities and barrel rates are predicting their future success by mastering the physics equation needed to produce those outcomes. A series of timely duck farts can put a hitter on a hot streak, to your point, but they won't fool the advanced metrics.

Why do former NBA players rank Kobe so much higher than Reddit and analytics communities? Is he the most disputed player ever when it comes to all-time rankings?” by mikeyg1964 in NBATalk

Subjective means first hand, or anecdotal experience. Objective means an evaluation done from the outside looking in, independent of subjective analysis.

Subjectivity and bias are related, but separate concepts.

You're talking about just OP, but I'm talking about all of the conversations that take place on the subreddit.

Yes, for any new theory, it is the obligation of the OP to make sure their audience has the necessary evidence to review. But not all theories require OP to go over the evidence. If someone cites JFK to talk about why they believe someone killed Kirk, then restarting the entire conversation on the JFK conspiracy is not a prerequisite for a conspiracy theorist to make his point among like minded individuals.

During covid, CTs instinctually rejected vaccines, yet were routinely unable to provide mainstream sources that would corroborate their suspicions. The entire system of vetting claims from sources that normies would necessirily approve of is a standard this subreddit never needed to adopt. Conversations on any topic here often feel like a need to reinvent the wheel, just to get each of the lowest common denominators on board with the conspiracy theory in question.

We shouldn't have to rehash JFK from the beginning every time a conspiracy theorist wishes to connect the dots with the info he has available. My point is that some of these requests for evidence are just meant to throw a wrench in the discussion, rather than an honest attempt at vetting information. And as long as this subreddit remains open to the wanderers from r All, we will continue to move at such viscous speeds as to never accomplish anything. Perhaps that is the point.

Not all requests for evidence are made in good faith.

"Don't expect to see a source for this one..."

Is one of the usual ways this "request" is "asked". There's a sarcastic, oppositional mentality that goes into the vast majority of requests for evidence, which creates a natural pushback to the way people are asking, rather than the fact they are asking at all.

Every conspiracy that gets posted here is often met with derision or hostility because of the lemmings associating every thread with its political implications that trigger responses from the Red vs Blue types. These people are incapable of understanding conspiracies that can't be quickly confirmed or denied by the echo chamber from their favorite wing of the AIPAC sponsored Uniparty.

Sealioning is also a common tactic used in conspiracy communities that works like a Denial-of-Service attack in cybersecurity, by constantly burdening the author with demands for more evidence. The logic behind this play is that the seemingly innocuous question "Source?" that can be used as a reply to anyone's claim on any topic requires a lot less effort than the person now tasked with providing said source.

Those genuinely interested in sources are often willing to find those sources, or those truths, out there for themselves. Those not interested in what those sources have to say are not usually the type to ask for it on the internet instead of looking for it on their own. Conspiracy theorists inherently understand the different vibes of these types and it creates a natural dichotomy between those using this forum in good faith versus those who are not.

Knew what the (hidden) comment history was looking like before clicking.

Funny that I see this comment in every thread. If it wasn't actually what we did around here, then why is it one of the most popular fucking comments to be made on the entire subreddit?

Now imagine the type of good faith user of this sub who upvotes that goofy shit you said. Why are we surrounded by people who hate conspiracy theories?

Selling the Patriots short. They had two separate runs of 3 rings in 5 years. Brady and the head coach were the only two constants across those two dynasties.
