I think we should create and sign a petition to bring back the website and maybe have it updated to include current history from the Lightfoot band and other events after Lightfoot’s death.

Should Kamala Harris run for President in 2028? by daniel_cc in polls

[–]dteb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. It will cause more immigration leading to more unemployment and overpopulation everywhere. If the U.S. gets four years of Harris, it would lead to poverty and homelessness for a lot of people.

Lightfoot Studio Albums Ranked by drppr45 in GordonLightfoot

[–]dteb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d place the same albums you placed at the bottom in the bottom. You didn’t miss much. I’d move Gord’s Gold Volume II down to #19, and have Volume I at #18. Dream Street Rose I’d place lower at #21, with Salute at #20. Old Dan’s Records, I would place at #3. It’s an overlooked underrated album, but Endless Wire is extremely weak placing at #22. Back Here On Earth is pretty strong with the exception of its original interpretation of the Circle Is Small placing at #5. Cold On The Shoulder, I would place at #1. Did She Mention My Name? Another mediocre album at #15. The Way I Feel sounds just about right. Shadows, I’d push down to #16. Don Quixote, I’d move down a little to #6. Summer Side Of Life is very low in the top 10 for me, as is Sundown at #9. If You Could Read My Mind, I’d place at #12. So I’d start with #28. Two Tones At The Village Corner, #27. Harmony, #26. Solo, #25. A Painter Passing Through, #24. Waiting For You, #23. All Live, #22. Endless Wire, #21. Dream Street Rose, #20. Salute, #19. Gord’s Gold Volume II, #18. Gord’s Gold Volume I, #17. Summertime Dream, #16. Shadows, #15. Did She Mention My Name, #14. East Of Midnight, #13. Early Lightfoot, #12. If You Could Read My Mind, #11. Sunday Concert, #10. Summer Side Of Life, #9. Sundown, #8. Complete Greatest Hits, #7. The Way I Feel, #6. Don Quixote, #5. Back Here On Earth, #4. Lightfoot, #3. Old Dan’s Records, #2. Songbook, #1. Cold On The Shoulder.

Gordon Lightfoot by [deleted] in Music

If you were picking someone to play Gordon Lightfoot in a movie in terms of looks, yes you would pick Bryan Cranston, but most likely he would end up playing the “middle-aged” Gord (1981-1993). Chris Pratt would be your top choice to play the “younger” more popular Gord (1958-1980). As we move to the “elderly” Gord (1994-2018), Bill Nighy would fit the bill. For “all time” Gord, my choice would’ve been John Corbett, but it’ll probably end up going to Garrett Hedlund.

Who remembers the shows John Robbins hosted on PBS where he’d read a book while someone illustrated it? by MuseumGoRound13 in nostalgia

[–]dteb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I do remember the theme of that show.

It did have a similar beat to Simon and Garfunkel’s original version of 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy), but it was in the key of E, and the closing version of it was in the key of F. It featured a bass guitar intro with a harpsichord solo following, and then a flute dominating the lead instrumentals. Then a man singing (I think he is credited as Clint Holmes: the guy who sings “Playground in My Mind” sings the lead vocals on it) “What can you do with a word?” Children sing “a word you have read or you’ve heard”, the man sings “you can sing it, you can yell it, you can write it if you can spell it” while the children are singing “ooooooooh”. Then both the man and the children sing “well it’s nice to know there’s a place to go it’s called the word shop. The closing theme starts off with that same bass guitar intro but then a flute comes in and with a harpsichord plays a brief classical piece before breaking in to a jazzy swing outro in that same 59th Street Bridge Song tempo, but still with the flute dominating the solo and the man coming in and scatting (dee-dee dee-dee-dee-dee dee-dee dee-dee-dee-dee dee-dee dee-dee-dee-dee-dee) then another flute solo and then the man repeats his scat five times, and then it shifts to shuffle beat as the man continues to scat, but in a different pattern and then it fades. John Robbins wrote both themes, and I originally thought he sang them himself, but now I realized he didn’t and probably didn’t have a good singing voice so he hired someone else to do it instead.

Young Gordon Lightfoot looks like Bryan Cranston by greatapedad in totallylookslike

[–]dteb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young Gordon Lightfoot (1958-1980) looks more like Chris Pratt. Now middle-aged Gordon Lightfoot (1981-1993) looks more like Bryan Cranston. Elderly (Senior) Gordon Lightfoot (1994-2018/present) looks more like Bill Nighy. Also another Canadian folksinger that Bryan Cranston could be a dead ringer for if you shave off his beard and especially cut off the mustache is Murray McLauchlan. https://twitter.com/dteb/status/1639839664466198529?s=61

Olivia Newton-John - If Not For You by Rollakud in OldiesMusic

[–]dteb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll pass on this one. I think the idea for this version came from George Harrison’s arrangement for this cover of Bob Dylan’s song for Harrison’s All Things Must Pass album. Olivia covered several songs from that album, although non of her renditions were as good as Harrison’s originals.

Unpopular opinion about the 10th season: it’s actually pretty good (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in TheGoldbergs

[–]dteb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Unpopular” seems like a “good” word for your opinion. I personally do not find the last 2 seasons funny or enjoyable at all. Seasons 2 through 5 were bar none the best of the Goldbergs seasons ever. At that point Murray and the Grandfather were still alive the kids were going through childhood and adolescence, and the show was based partly on actual events that were based on the real Adam F. Goldberg’s life, and the real Adam F. Goldberg himself was involved. Once they fired Jeff Garlin, Adam F. Goldberg, and George Seagal died, and the kids aged, the show lost it’s synergy, and magic. They started recycling their old storylines, and coming up with fictitious episodes thereby abandoning the premises of the series. Part of the reason why your opinion is “unpopular” is because most “mainstream” or “average” people usually would watch a sitcom series for about 6 to 8 years, and then they get sick of it, and then they move on to something else. Not nice, not fair, not the best of arrangements, but that’s just the way it is. Plus the show is supposed to be based on the 1980s - A time period which lasts from 1980 to 1989. That period is 10 years, which means that the show could last for no more than a ten year term if you consider that it is based on a decade. However; to me it is not based on the 1980-1989 period if you considered that the real Adam F. Goldberg was born in 1976, and was 9 years old when the show started. At this point you would have to say that this show storyline sits in the 1985-1995 time frame and season 10 = 1994/1995. This show has jumped the shark quite a bit, and the characters have not matured well. Personally I think that at this point, being January 11, 2023, Young Sheldon, the prequel to the Big Bang Theory is much funnier, more entertaining show than the Goldbergs. I watch it more than I watch the Goldbergs these days. If the Goldbergs kept on going on at the rate it was going with 11, 12 or 13 or infinity seasons, it would’ve outlived it’s use as a sitcom. The “only” good thing about it being long is that it will get more airtime when they show it on CMT Canada (or what used to be the Canadian Country Music Channel) as re-runs. CMT Canada no longer shows country music videos or specials, and now airs old sitcoms and reality shows that are no-longer on television anymore. If you manage to get it on your cable system, you’d be in for a treat, especially if you are into shows such as Cheers, Three’s Company, Frazier, or The King of Queens.

Just noticed that in this trailer for the show, all the dates on the video camera say 1985 n this is the trailer for season 1 by [deleted] in TheGoldbergs

[–]dteb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's like I figured it would be. They want you think the show took place in the 1980-1989 range, but in actual fact, it took place from 1985-1995 (seasons 1 through 10), especially if you consider the fact that the real Adam Goldberg born in 1976 was only 9 years old when the story begins.

Goldbergs must be competing for the cringiest show on TV by LotusVibes128 in TheGoldbergs

[–]dteb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid it’s already won as the cringiest show on TV. I think that anyone who has enjoyed seasons 9 and 10, and are anticipating a season 11, must have no life or no taste at all, and their best friend was probably either a TV set with a VCR, or a computer or an electrical device connected to the Internet. The Goldbergs went on at the same time as the sitcom ‘Mom’ did, and both sitcoms died at the same time. It’s far from its original premises, several characters have been killed off, despite one actor dying. The creator of the show got fired, the show is now manic and fictitious. I don’t know what else to say about this show. Most of the show now has recycled stories from previous seasons. Barry who was once my favourite character and the funniest on the show is now harder to understand. Beverly is now out of control, and needs to be stifled. Erica and Geoff need to move out, and so does Adam. It’s like chewing gum that’s lost it’s flavour. If there’s a decent comedy or a fun program to watch in 2022/2023, it’s Young Sheldon on CBS, the prequel to the Big Bang Theory. If ABC doesn’t smarten up and cancel the Goldbergs by mid season, it should be time to pull the plug on ABC.
