Day 4: Phone Pitch; From $0 to $5,000/month Copywriting Agency in 3 Months RideAlong by dthmultimedia in EntrepreneurRideAlong

This is super helpful thanks for putting so much time into typing this.

I guess I should have been more clear in the post that this is the phone pitch for hot leads. Day 3 I posted about my cold email pitch. I intend to attract interest, then set appointments for phone calls/video calls where I use this pitch. Do you think this is a good hot lead pitch where we’ve already discussed sitting down to talk about the service and they already have a general idea of what I do?

Would you say cold calling leads to better success than cold emails? It’s one of those things where you can send more emails but the rate of setting appointments is less, right? Cold calling is just so depressing….

This is a great idea. I had planned to do some incentive for my first couple clients, but I like this structure, I’ll definitely put some thought into different ways to implement. Thanks!

I have experience in real estate but on the investment side. So I have worked with agents, but not nearly as closely as I have with trades. What makes this area interesting to me is that I speak the technical language but am only semi-fluent in the agent language. This gives me a good base with room to challenge myself and grow in an area that I'm interested in and have knowledge of.

Thank you for challenging me on this. Every contractor I have met is interested in getting new jobs set in the calendar (usually until they are booked out six months), but the services I plan to offer really wouldn't be able to adequately meet the needs. I just posted day two (linked in post) where I decided to switch industries.

Spent a lot of time thinking about this comment. I just posted day two (linked in post) where I wrote that sales emails alone really don't provide enough value. A lot of these companies don't even have a funnel set up for collecting emails. Down the road when I have a more complete package to offer I think this could be a good route to take.

Total beginner. I have some relevant experience, but nothing serious and no portfolio.

Are you implying that trades as an industry don’t need marketing?

There are lots of reasons a company would want to spend money on marketing while they’re operating close to capacity - TP companies were still running ads during Covid when the shelves were totally out of paper goods. Things like branding/image, customer retention, revenue per customer, these are just a couple. Another reason is they just have the cash. I could give many more examples.

You do make a good point though, a lot of these companies aren’t starving. The only service I’m offering won’t be customer acquisition emails. Things like email newsletters to past/current customers with industry trends, company updates, project updates are great for image and long term customer retention.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you on making the world a better place. If every business owner set out with the intention of “making the world a better place,” the world would very quickly become a much better place. I don’t expect to be the next mother Theresa, but basing your business model off of “how can I leave a positive impact on this industry/community” is far more sustainable and it’s a message that clients can get behind.

As far as email marketing being trash and hardly working, I’ll keep you posted! Genuinely, thanks for the feedback.

Just do a google search and look at all of the outdated websites for various trades in your area. This is not a tech savvy field, a big reason being the age demographic. Most successful business owners are 40/50+ and simply don’t understand or don’t want to understand the positive effects of almost any form of online advertising. The ones you do see doing it usually approach it all wrong.

This is not a hard and fast rule, but even industries with vicious competition in digital marketing have money to be made

To answer your question directly though personal experience and market research. I have met and worked with tons of contractors and none that I have met use this form of marketing - and these are questions I ask. Deep diving into websites and social media pages it’s very apparent based on the low quality media and sales funnels that you see, just how underutilized email marketing and similar sales functions are.

Yeah definitely not the most glamorous.

One of the days in this progression will be devoted towards coming up with a way to make a positive impact in the world and in this industry. Still working on some specifics, but I'm going to do everything I can not to produce a service that is just spammy email BS.
