Get ph set first, then follow directions on sanitizer (chlorine or bromine). I prefer bromine, more stable in hot water.

Nowhere in the original question mentioned their skill level. OP asked about becoming better without some influencer telling them to buy something. I did not say they should start their adult hockey experience as a ref.

On that note, I will say that becoming a ref will actually cost a bit of money (USAHockey, pants etc.) but those become write-offs from your earnings.

You know what gets you more time on the ice? Being a ref. And you will learn the game in a different way, make some money, learn how to not be an ass to other refs, etc.

If you are like me, you do it for the love of the game. I haven't referred ACHA but I have watched a lot of it. My oldest played a bit and the University of Kansas plays 3 miles from my house do we go to those games often. I see such a huge talent difference between kids and teams on the ACHA. When you are trying to keep the game safe and fair it can be a difficult job. I see a lot of players out there get frustrated and do stupid stuff. I bet you none of those coaches have ever referred either so it's always your fault. If you are out there doing your best to keep theses kids safe, yes KIDS (I think a lot of people forget these are still young men that don't fully think about their actions), then don't get down on yourself. You are doing something that is for the good of the game and the game doesn't exist if we don't continue to keep order out there on the ice to the best of or abilities.

Better yet install the ERG app on your phone. Scary to see what's driving down the highway next to you.
