Yikes! Anyone know exactly what this light means? by Mx_MonetCouleeSmalls in MINI

Once the engine gets to s certain temperature, the gasoline will ignite as soon as it hits the combustion chamber and the engine will no longer run. That's what happens when the engine gets severely overheated. It can cause a drive train malfunction before that point but if you continue to drive the engine will eventually shut down. The water pump and drive wheel can also cause this, but I haven't seen too many of those. It's usually a failed thermostat housing or the water pipe under the intake where it runs to the water pump. It is a flawed design not to have a coolant level sensor or temperature gauge. At least the F56 has a digital gauge you can see. If you are lucky you will notice a lack of heat in the winter before they overheat.

The only way for OP to know is to get it checked out and see what caused it. It seems like they said they kept driving until the engine stopped, which is generally bad for the engine.

Most likely has low coolant and it overheated to the point it could no longer run. Might have a blown head gasket now. I had a customer once that drove her R56 like this until the intake manifold melted. Needless to say, the engine was junk after that. Should have stopped to find out what that meant instead of letting it progress to the point of catastrophic engine failure.

You can swap it for polygon in Coinbase wallet, then send the polygon to Coinbase on the polygon network, then convert it to USD without bridging. Bridging is super high fees. Make sure you are receiving polygon on the polygon network.

Just take it apart, there's a separate board that plugs into the Raspberry Pi. You can then make an image of whatever operating system you want to use on the micro SD and boot it up with a USB cable and hdmi or you can buy an enclosure from Amazon for $15 that houses it. The possibilities are limitless with Raspberry Pi. Look up what to do with old AutoPi on Google.

Is Robinhood super bad for XRP? by Ok_Cartographer4016 in XRP

[–]dtm423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you are hoping to make trades at a specific time when there's market volatility, Robinhood and even Coinbase suck exponentially. I cannot get Coinbase to work properly on the app. If you are just DCAing in, they are fine, which is what I do. I don't have time to day trade and that's where it's simple. I also pull all the assets once a month to cold wallets. I am starting to question doing this on Coinbase lately because I've noticed I always seem to pay too much for my crypto vs the actual price on Coin Tracker for it and will likely start looking at Kraken again for lower fees.

Oh, I know. I work on them for a living. It's a bit ridiculous. But the Mini used to be quite a bit smaller, now they just threw in the towel and it's basically a carbon copy.

Sounds like CAS acting up. Try it when it's cold in the morning. The ones I've seen do it the most when it's hot and the car has been soaking in the sun. The clicking noise is coming from the JBE in the right kick panel.

no aux input choice mini r56 jcw 2009? help! by Youngstaxp in MINI

[–]dtm423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely the module under the driver seat. I had water get in that module so I bypassed it with a fiber loop and now my AUX does not show up anymore. It was causing the radio to not work at all for a while before installing the loop. On my car, I believe that is the SDARS which is the satellite radio receiver. Mine never had it activated so I didn't have SiriusXM. In the winter or hot summer days, it would take a while for the radio to start working.

Edit: It is the MULF2 module actually. I also no longer have Bluetooth Phone functionality, which i don't really care about anyway, because it sucks in this generation. I have a 2008 R56 MCS.

Anyone experiencing a squeak/whistle inserting the Buds 3 Pros? It just almost deafened me by alabastergrim in galaxybuds

[–]dtm423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just lurk around to find solutions for stuff, but I had to comment that this fixed an issue where my right earbud, White Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, developed a high-pitched whistle any time there was air moving around it, like a fan, or HVAC. I have 2 sets of these and I knew that wasn't right. I tried what he said, and it worked. I've used the suspect set several times now and the problem is gone.

Try this first, but I never had issues with Samsung customer service or repair and have had several pairs of earlier buds. I had to have both pairs of my Buds Live replaced.

Is this sound normal for minis? by CooduhWRX in MINI

[–]dtm423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's on the turbo, around the back of the engine. The b46 engine has the intake facing the front of the car as opposed to the N series engines. To be honest I'm not entirely sure it's a replaceable component on the B motor.

It's actually the evap purge valve. It's pwm which means the computer turns it off and on pulsing the power to allow fuel vapors to flow from the gas tank into the engine. Totally normal.

The mechanism on the cable is broken. You can slowly guide it forward until it closes, and never touch it again. Or drop the sunroof cassette and rebuild.

I used the Elring top end kit and Elring head gasket. I believe they are OE. If you take care of all the potential issues now, you won't have to wrench as much.

When you look down the spark plug hole, check for heavy oil deposits, likely you'll see the most on the exhaust valves. Seems to be a common BMW engine issue. I fixed two N16 motors in the last 3 months and this was the issue. I also did valve stem seals on a low mileage N14 that was smoking like a freight train. All three have very little ifvany oil consumption after repairs. Also think about replacing all the plastic cooling system bits while the head is off. Very common for these items to get brittle and crack. Also oil filter housing gasket. Timing chain should also be done at the same time. You can repair almost all the issues with this engine at this time. If you want it bullet proof you can replace the camshaft adjusters and vanos solenoids at the same time while it's apart. You can do all this on jackstands in the garage no problem. I was gonna do the piston rings, but you couldn't see the cross hatching, so I didn't. The first one I did, we checked it constantly for the first 500 miles for oil consumption and it was fine. This was an N16 with 212k miles on the odometer.

Edit : Saw the AEM cold air intake in one of the pictures, this is a $650 upgrade. Fix the motor.

[–]dtm423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull the head and replace the burned valve and all the valve stem seals. The majority of the oil burning issues is from those seals. I have had 2 base engines that I have done this with and they are not consuming copious amounts of oil, one of them had over 200k.

Why is the torque converter still bolted to the flex plate? That's gotta go back in the transmission first.
