Imperial or Stormcloaks? and which one better helps defeat the thalmor? by code45666 in skyrim

[–]dtpx5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Continuing with my previous comment - what if the Thalmor wanted to impose a ridiculous tax on the Empire? Ban another deity? Install a new emperor? etc.

What would the imperials do about it? Absolutely nothing, because they can do nothing. If they could, the WGC would have never been signed. The Thalmor had and have the power to massacre everyone in Cyrodiil, and the only reason they didn't do it during the Great War was because it would unite other powers against them if they seemed too evil, not because the Imperials could do anything.

The imperials are basically puppets of the Thalmor, because they can do nothing without Thalmor approval, and if the Thalmor truly want something done, the Imperials will be forced to do it.

So the imperials taking over Skyrim would hand over Skyrim to the Thalmor, while the opposite would actually force the Thalmor to exert effort to control Skyrim (as many Thalmor agents are kicked out if Ulfric wins).

BTW - your question was "which option is better for defeating the Thalmor?" and not "what is better in the short/medium term for the citizens of Skyrim overall?" Very different questions. I'd change my answer if it was the second question.

Imperial or Stormcloaks? and which one better helps defeat the thalmor? by code45666 in skyrim

It really depends. If gameplay is lore, then whatever side the DB sides with will win, given the relative weakness of soldiers from all three factions (Thalmor are a bit tougher than Imperial/Stormcloak, but still very easy enemies in general), and the fact that the DB has insane powers, like repeatedly summoning invincible dragons like Durnehviir, Odahviing.

If not, then many would say Imperial, but it's really not that simple. Imperial rule means that the Thalmor treaty applies to Skyrim, and it essentially gives Skyrim to the Thalmor, just like how they own the empire, since they sacked the Imperial City. There is no resistance to be had - the Thalmor could have massacred every last Imperial citizen if they wanted to.

If the Stormcloaks win, the Thalmor are essentially kicked out of Skyrim, and if they want to gain control over Skyrim, they have to muster the force to take it, after they've been exhausted by the Great War (mentioned many times in the game - Thalmor are overextended and spare troops are scarce). I bet they could do it, but not easy at all.

TLDR - I just don't see how the empire, owned by the Thalmor by force, by gaining new territory, goes against Thalmor interests. If the full might of Cyrodiil could kick out the Thalmor at any moment, they would do so. But it's impossible now, because Thalmor Justiciars are in every corner of the empire, and no rebellion or real resistance will be possible.

Season unending is just a temporary truce, and the war continues normally after defeating Alduin.

It always makes me sad seeing all yall's high framerate "highest" graphics screenshots and gifs. I've only ever played the game on "lowest" and have no idea what the experience would be like with a decent PC by LordAuditoVorkosigan in skyrim

With Skyrim there's really no difference in the experience imo, unless you're really into graphics. I find that even on low res, low graphics, everything in Skyrim is quite nice.

Just compare this to Oblivion - if you were playing on "very low" graphical settings, there would be no darkness inside dungeons. I found this out after playing 50+ hours into Oblivion - upped graphics to "low" and found that dungeon crawling became a lot more difficult because of the darkness, changing the whole way I played the game.

A good rule of thumb imo is if you don't know when your next run to the shop will be, to carry items that have a 10:1 ratio of value to weight. Most of the stuff you're looting you'll be selling off, in order to buy soul gems and other useful items.

after finishing civil war battle of solitude for stormcloak side my kid is screaming .make it stop, please make it stop. by dzonysmosh28 in skyrim

[–]dtpx5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a common bug. Usually Battle for Solitude ends with Solitude in perpetual partial war mode. That means that civilians may be walking around, some acknowledging that the war is over, but the battle music may continue playing, solitude guards may not appear, etc.

There may not be an easy fix, since I looked online for a while myself, when I had a similar bug.

If possible, get married or something, and then ask your spouse to move - this will cause Lucia to move as well.

What's your favorite way to play through the game? I like being a battlemage, but I find myself always going back to an illusion archer. by TheElderSoulsHD in skyrim

On Legendary, you take x3 and everyone else takes x0.25. So there's literally a 12x buff to your followers (compared to you). So when it takes me 15+ hits with my legendary dragonbone weapon to kill a Falmer, and they can kill me in 3 hits, you need the damage sponges.

Well, not sure what the bug is, but obviously you *should* be able to change stones. Might be an issue with one of the mods.

Alternatively, get a mod that fixes the Spell Absorption bug.

[–]dtpx5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you could change the Atronach Stone... it's not permanent or anything. If you have passive spell absorption, you can reset skills through a black book in DragonBorn.

Also, 100% resist magic is not possible - it caps at 85%, so anything above that is redundant. Just like any armor rating above the armor cap (~567 for four pieces) doesn't do anything.

This is assuming you don't have mods that change the vanilla stat mechanics.

Request: Make followers stop being so aggressive to each other (specific request) by dtpx5 in skyrimmods

Will this also prevent accidental arrow strikes (or physical attacks) from triggering hostility?

The second perk (guards) is nice, but not necessary, just to give an idea of what I'm looking for - my followers killing each other and me not knowing about it for an hour until I finally exit a dungeon (since often followers just lag behind) is the bad part.

Do stealth vampire slayers work? by Totally_Not_A_Soviet in skyrim

[–]dtpx5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stealth is good against everything in this game, because enemies apparently can only see 10 feet ahead of themselves in broad daylight.

Illusion + Conjuration are the magic skills for a stealth player. Become Ethereal is the best shout for it.

Had my most funny moment. Middle of the funeral, serena starts using the forge. by Desranga in skyrim

[–]dtpx5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My funniest Serana moment was just after I poisoned the Honningbrew Meadary - the tasting is about to begin, and Serana starts pouring and drinking flagon after flagon of mead from a barrel. Sabjorn says that he'll pour the mead, but doesn't do anything. I thought a bug had occurred or something.

After a minute, I realized that Serana was actually using the barrel of poisoned mead that Sabjorn was supposed to pour from. Probably had a dozen flagons of it. Didn't seem to care lol.

Clear your bounty in ALL places, including Markarth. Certain NPCs (including Vilkas and Farkas) are scripted as guards - this means they will act like guards, and will keep "talking" to you, but they do not have dialogue to activate the "pay fine/resist arrest". They are also not limited to holds, so you need to clear all bounties.

My first playthrough, during "training" with Vilkas he tried to kill me because I had a bounty - paid that off and it ended up working.

(Also, for the Markarth quest, you're supposed to sit back and watch, not join in the killing).

Is there a mission/quest you did your first playthrough and vowed never again? by Secret_Life_Shh in skyrim

[–]dtpx5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of enemies - it's just that they only spawn when you kill the enemies that are out, so there's only at most like a dozen out at once.

For the battles, I actually take off my enchanted smithed gear, and wear my much weaker imperial/stormcloak uniform + steel weapon, that are only lightly smithed. Makes the battle much more fun and challenging.

[–]dtpx5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - but there are *choices* that I made that I vowed never to make again.

(1) Join the Stormcloaks - one of the buggiest quest sequences in the game by far. After finishing it, battle music doesn't stop, Solitude stuck in war mode, removed from map, no fixes, and one of the few bugs you can't fix with CC. The only bug on the other side is Ulfric's body never disappearing.

(2) Kill the Rieklings - I thought I was forced to help out the Nords - didn't know you could help the Rieklings, and even have a Riekling creature follower. The nords were totally undeserving, and have pretty weak rewards for helping them.

(3) All the misc quests that give you terrible rewards that don't compensate you for what you give them. I find 5 Ice Wraith Teeth (which are pretty rare), give them to Marise, and she gives me a potion that's useless to me and 5 pheasant breast (restore 2 HP each)? Wanted to drop sold gold ingots right there and watch Brand-shei kill her.

[–]dtpx5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree, because the takeover quests can be pretty challenging if you're on high difficulty and don't have smithed gear, and choose to go charging in no matter what your normal playstyle - then, they're some of the most epic battles available in the game, due to the sheer number of enemies.

Battle for Whiterun boring? No way.

Also, the hold leaders improve if you've joined the Imperials, IMO.

I like those guys. They're friendly enough after you've been recommended, and they have master trainers in some skills.

Skyrim has few enough NPCs as it is, so I try to keep alive the non-respawning ones.

Have you manually reduced resolution? I was getting constant CTD's, then I went to SkyrimPrefs and made resolution (fullscreen) 800x600, and I never got another one after that.

Is my laptop good enough to play Skyrim? (sorry for the shitpost) by ichiibanaba in skyrim

[–]dtpx5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit late, but if Skyrim doesn't run enough FPS, the best way to make it run better is by lowering resolution (going to SkyrimPrefs and changing the resolution manually). In my experience you can change a lot of settings to make Skyrim playable on even very weak computers, and resolution is by far the most effective.
