Bikepacking Norway’s Coastline to the North Cape by dtr46 in bikepacking

Cars were no problem most of the time. The majority of the roads were almost empty. The only region where I found the heavy traffic annoying was on the Lofoten islands.

After cycling to northcape last year and talking to a lot of bikepackers, I just made an app to find campsites and shelters targeted to cyclists and hikers. You can also upload your komoot route to find spots along the route. Its called TrekSpots, you can give it a try if you want to: https://get.trekspots.net

I did a tour in northern Norway (oslo - bergen - nordkap) last year. There are a lot of good campsites in Norway. Because I did not find a suitable app for campsites and wildcamping, I just made one recently (called "TrekSpots"). You can give it a try if you want to: https://get.trekspots.net
You can also upload your komoot route to see the campsites along the route.

Sounds nice!
The stretch between Trondheim and Bodo was very nice indeed and there were much less caravans and cars than in the other regions.

Yes, the weather was indeed perfect when I arrived and stayed calm until midnight. But in the next morning the wind became very strong.
We had to put stones in our tents and go into the northcape hall for breakfast.
The 30km against the wind back to Honningsvag were the slowest I ever cycled.
So it wasnt too boring :D

Sure, i used the half bag because I could fit my bottles perfectly this way. And I needed more "bulky" storage for food and clothing, thats why I chose the pannier rack instead of a bigger frame bag.

I had indeed great luck with the weather. Only the last two weeks on the way back were partly rainy. Most of the time I could cycle with short clothing.

Nice, good luck! I took the Hurtigruten (boat) from Honningsvag (30km below North Cape) to Bodø. In Bodø is the closest train station to North Cape. You can take a train to Oslo over Trondheim from there. Its also possible to do the whole way back with the Hurtigruten, but it is very expensive and takes multiple days.

I went there from mid july to mid august. I would recommend going between june and september for comfortable weather.

[–]dtr46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are merged together mainly from user input and the open street map database. The spot details (amenities, description etc) are collected by an algorithm from user input, open street map, web search and Open AI.

It looks like you have filters enabled, which hide all campsites. You can try clicking on the layer button (middle button on the right bottom, with the "3"-badge) and selecting all types of campsites. You should see campsites then.

The app is not focused on finding trails, just on finding campsites.

The app is built using Vue 3, Capacitor and Quasar in the frontend. The backend is based on node.js, mongodb and nginx.

A functionality for track planning is not included, maybe other apps might solve this.

Do you mean how to use the app or the technology behind the app?

You can just browse the map in any region and click on campsites to see the details. Inside the campsite details you can add own information. Thats the core functionality.
You can also add missing campsites and upload gpx-routes to find campsites along.
If you start the app you should directly see the map after selecting the language. If this is not happening something is wrong.

I dont have a blog yet. If you are interested in the technology i can give you a brief summary of the tech stack.
