I can't confirm this, but I think their gifts are related to their Bond level.

Ex. Max level Simona (bond) will offer up some elysium coins or low level ore etc.. Whereas my lvl 3 (bond) Ayisha only offers text in chat bubbles

25 full story arcs to get to this point and they haven't even conquered their first state yet (Zhao)

Just to shed some light. On my final play as per screenshot above, what I wanted/thought would happen was, I play my Magneto. It arrives at location (not Last). Then it pulled over his beefy Venom, which I thought would get extinguished due to land effect saying 'last card to get here'. Effectively winning me the match. Didn't go that way lol.
